Generally this happens because of a bad connection on the float itself. there is no fix for this because it is intergrated as part of the in tank pump. and if the fuel pump works fine. the cost of replacing the whole unit is not worth just fixing the float problem. as far as the the strip on the door i usually just call it a cosmetic door molding or flashing. good luck....please rate..thanks

I have a 2002 lincoln ls that has gas guage reading only a quarter tank when full. I know there is 2 pumps on this car, one is the primary pump under passenger back seat and a jet transfer pump on drivers...

Fuel pumps outside the gas tank have nothing to do with fuel gauge readings. There is a fuel level sender unit inside the tank with a float which supplys variable ground circuit to the gauge. If you can find the wire to this unit, you can ground it to see if the gauge now goes to full. If so, sender unit in tank is bad, or has bad wiring/ground.

My gas gauge does not work on my 2000 olds silhoutee, it jumps up and down. What does this mean?

Your problem is in the fuel pressure sending unit. It senses the level of the gas with floats on the fuel pump and the sensor on the sending unit (on the ring @ the top of the fuel tank) sends a signal to the computer in the van telling you how much gas you have by showing it on the gauge. Unfortunately you will have to change the whole sending unit.

WHEN FUEL GUAGE REACHES HALF WAY THE NEEDLE WILL DROP TO EMPTY. TRY TO PUT GAS IN AND MAYBE GET 5 GAL IN AND THE NOZZLE CLICKS OFF. IT WILL SHOW 3/4 TANK THEN. I KNOW IT SHOULD TAKE MORE WITH THE MILES I...

from what you are describing you have two(2) different problems
1- the wacky gauge- its acting like a grounding issue- wires are crushed/smashed on tank connector
2- not filling - venting issue- vent line to top of tank pinched
3 solution- run tank down to 1/4 or less and DROP tank down to inspect wires and hoses- sounds like at some point in time the tank took a hit and wedged itself upwards against the underside, pinched the vent line so there is too much pressure in tank and also crushing the wires/plug causing the erratic readings(worse with less weight as the tank moves more)
if unsure of how to do this- you can get a manual such as a HAYES book at auto parts story- good luck

Gas gauge and tach do not read proper readings! What will cause this? The gas guage will peg past full when there is only quarter tank and tach reads 4500 RPM at idle

The gas tank sounds like a bad ground usually located under the car at the gas tank. I do not know but maybe they both tach and fuel gague get their ground from the same place.

Fuel guage is working right

A common problem is the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank. The tank would have to be removed and the fuel pump removed to replace the sensor. There is also a wiring harness that is a common cause for this. It is under the van and gets damaged by water.
