I have almost the same problem but my fuel gauge shows that the fuel tank is full but is not actully full. When I turn off the ignition, after an hour or so the fuel gauge shows the right fuel level then after couple minutes, it shows the fuel tank full again.

We're buying a 1992 Honda Accord DX with only 87,000 miles but the owner says the gas gauge hasn't worked for her. Would this be expensive to fix?

If you remove the sending unit in the gas tank, move it manually by hand as u saw done earlier, the gauge on the dash should also move. As long as the sending unit in the tank isn't 'stuck' at the half full level, the gauge should register empty to full as it moves. To be honest, I'm not sure if I would bother taking the sending unit out. 1st, u must be very careful not to blow yourself up when working on the gas tank (no sparks, etc), all u really need to do is fill up your car, see how many miles a tank of gas will go (carry a can of gas with u to see how many miles before u run out). If it's 350 miles, just set the trip gauge to zero every time u fill up, and get gas every 300 miles so u don't run out. If the sending unit moves freely, everything (wiring ) is connected properly, then it probably is the fuel gauge. good luck!

The instrument cluster is a sealed unit, do not recommend taking it apart for that. What I would do is drill a small 1/16" hole near where the stop pin is through the plastic outer cover and use a paper clip or sewing needle to move the fuel guage needle back to the other side of the stop pin. Reseal with a drop of super glue to keep dust out of cluster.

My Benz 230E 1992 has slow acceleration, epecially when cold. you press the throtle and it takes time to pick. sometimes goes off when cold. Also the automatic gear shift jerks. Please advice

Check the fuel pump pressure ( use correct pressure guage and safety goggles) and make sure the fuel filter is good or replace before you do that.
Pressure should be around four and half to five bar. If that works out ok, borrow an air flow sensor from a friends car (which is running correctly and try it. You may have to replace all three items to get the performance you want. Best of luck

My 1992 achieva is dying because the rpm went to zero and the guage will flicker around while in driving. It sputters around like it is not making a connection

there could be many reasons for this but when the rpm needle went down, did the car died out? if is just doing that you may have problems with an electical conection, fuel pump or relays, have the car check for this systems.
have you had any work done on it recently?
