Question about 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Transmission will shift into a lower gear by itself and rpms increase. Had tranny rebuilt and controller replaced. Worked well for 80 or so miles then same problem.

That happened to me and it was the transmission sensor that needed replacement.

The trans module put the trans into limp in (2nd gear) any time it detects a problem. It could be electrical or mechanical. You'll have to have some put a scanner on it to check it out.

1999 Buick Regal tranny shifts very smooth but will not shift into top gear aamco says tranny needs to be rebuilt is their anything else I can try that's not so expensive

A 16 year old car with no doubt over 150,000 miles on it will have lots of internal wear in the transmission, especially if transmission maintenance has been neglected as is usually the case. Eventually component wear will show up with problems selecting more of the gear ratios rather than just the one gear as it is now.

There is no cheap fix for transmission component wear. You either have to repair your own transmission by replacing all worn internal components or you have to buy a rebuilt unit.

Why does the rpms on my 96 dodge grand caravan just keep going up when driving

It is common for rpm's to increase, as the acceleration increases... That is when the transmission comes into effect, when the RPMs increase, the next gear is then shifted into.
if the RPMs continue to increase, then the transmission is not shifting. It's possible that you have a transmission or torque converter problem.

I have a 1999 Chevy 5.3L Silverado Z71 4x4. My truck is having transmission issues. In drive (D) it shifts 1-2. During that shift it hesitates before shifting to 2nd and rpms rise. It will not shift to 3rd...

that should be a 700R4. probably a broken sunshell inside the tranny. need to have it rebuilt. Mine only cost 250 bucks for the parts, but the tranny guy is family.

2002 buick rendevous awd tranny wont shift out of first gear

let transmission shop do pressure test and diagnostic check.many things will cause transmission not to shift right.could have faulty over drive solenoid.faulty VSS sensor it controls shifts. could have faulty TPS sensor or TCM.the first and second shift valves or solenoids bad your transmission is electronically control many things will cause problems the transmission shop use scanner to check out all shift solenoids.the older transmissions use modulator valve and governor valve control transmission shifts but the newer transmissions shifts control by TCM and ECM.

Transmission not shifting gears in drive at freewill

There is a vaccum modulator on the front of the transmission. It has a single vaccum line going to it and is held in place with one bolt. This part controls your up and down shift. Its a 20.00 part. Try replacing it first. If that dosent do it then you will need a rebuild or replacment.

With normal acceleration the 1st to second shift point should be around 2500-3000 rpm. Most of your shifts under moderate acceleration will take place at this same point or when there a light load on the transmission. Under hard acceleration the RPMs will climp higher due to increased power needs and the computer will shift when less power is needed or the RPMs climb to an unsafe speed say5000-6000rpms (depending on where yours redlines). Also going up a steep hill will raise the RPMs higher and goind down a hill will cause a faster shift at lower RPMs. These can always be altered by an individual owner by adjusting shift points, using performance parts and if you have problems (low tranny fluid/trans issues). Your trans RPMS are fine and will vary depening on how your foot accelerates. The shift pattern should be the same every time you drive slow/medium/fast/, look for changes in those patterns you will also catch a problem early.

Automatic tranny will not shift out of low gear. check engine on

you will need to replace your transmission, this is a very common problem with the ultradrive transmissions.

if you have added any fluid to the transmission chances are it was the wrong type.

Hi,

Here is some possible reasons why your transmission is having those problems .

* The gear shift linkage is binding
* There is an internal problem in the transmission
* The throttle cable is broken or disconnected
* The vacuum modulator on the transmission is faulty or the vacuum line is damaged
* The electronic transmission control circuit may be faulty
