Question about 2003 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Instrument panel dials all pegged to zero or max

2003 Focus wagon 2.0L Automatic (US) - 65000 miles. Upon returning to the airport after a weeks trip, temp, spedo, and fuel gauges started to jump. Very quickly the temp and spedo pegged to zero and the fuel gauge pegged to full. On the 40 mile trip home, ocassionally all three gauges [at the same time] would jump to the correct value but then would peg back to the zero/full position. After I got home, I let the car sit for an hour and then took it out for a short drive. All dials now pegged to zero/empty with no movement whatsoever. Other than the dials, the car ran fine. All other electrical equipment [lights, radio, wipers, heater fan, windows, other instrument idiot lights] were fine. I've read the posts about the VSS. Could that also affect the temp & fuel dials? Dave When the key is turned on, the speedometer goes from 0 to 130 mph instantly and then goes back to 0. If the car sits for two days without being started the battery goes dead. The car has a new battery , the alternator is putting out the correct voltage and there are no blown fuses in the car. What could be causing the battery to go dead?

Ok let me help you get started
this isnt going to be easy we need to do a bunch of testing.
you will need a 12 volt test light.
remove the negitive battery cable and connect one side of your test light to the battery negitive and the other side to the battery cable . and with the key off.. so now if you have a short some where the light should be lit. now what we have to do is start to pull fuses untill the light goes out. and when you find the fuse that is causing your short and drain your battery . then we have to look into the section of the wiring and components.
let me know what you find
later paul

2003 Chrysler Town & Country Instrument panel keeps going on and off. Gauges peg out then go to zero and the odometer and the P123D lights go out. AFter about 15 seconds every thing comes back on, ...

Possible error in the dash cluster, the wiring, connectors or the panel electronics. If the fault occurs while driving could this be relative to the vibration of the instrument panel. If so you might have to have a very closer look without thinking of changing tthe whole unit.
tap within to see if the fault is recurring if so get closer to the area of contact.

There was a campaign to faulty instrument panel on your year of Yukon and you should check with your local GM dealer for a free instrument panel replacement. A special policy came out for 03-04 trucks and suvs with less then 70,000 miles, and less then 7 years old.
