Question about 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier
I have a 96 chevy cavalier and just had the engine replaced and it will not start. It doesnt even seem like its cranking over fast enough to start, The guy that did the job said that the anti theft on the car is the problem. He said that the computer needs to be reset to be able to shut off the anti theft. there is a bad smell of gas when trying to start the car.
Pull the plugs and check compression ... becareful you my get fuel sprying out. if you get fuel the injectors are leaking causing it to flood the engine

I swapped the engine in my 96 with no computer reset. You can check the fuel pump quickly by squirting some starter fluid into the throttle opening. If it fires but doesn't stay going, it is a fuel problem. Could be fuel pump or filter.
