1996 chevy cavalier problem

I have a 96 chevy cavalier and just had the engine replaced and it will not start. It doesnt even seem like its cranking over fast enough to start, The guy that did the job said that the anti theft on the car is the problem. He said that the computer needs to be reset to be able to shut off the anti theft. there is a bad smell of gas when trying to start the car.

I have fuel and spark but it will not start!!!

I was driving home late one night and everything was running just perfectly fine, then the car cut out but recovered, then about 2 miles down the road it quit just like someone turned the key off. I had to have it towed home where I started looking at it, there is spark and there is fuel but for some reason it will not start. I spray starting fluid in the intake but still nothing. I had it at several shops including the GM dealer and even they can't find the problem. If I don't get it going soon, it is going to the scrap yard and will be crushed.

Pull the plugs and check compression ... becareful you my get fuel sprying out. if you get fuel the injectors are leaking causing it to flood the engine

I swapped the engine in my 96 with no computer reset. You can check the fuel pump quickly by squirting some starter fluid into the throttle opening. If it fires but doesn't stay going, it is a fuel problem. Could be fuel pump or filter.

Exprees van just cranks over

I would chech the ingition module inside the distributor. It's a little black box on the bottom(inside). I'm assuming you have the correct fuel presssure coming from the fuel pump.

Location of the pcv valve on a 96 chevy cavalier

it should be in the top of the intake manifold, the air cleaner tube goes into the throttle body and there is a little line that runs from the air cleaner tube into the pcv value and is screwed into the intake manifold.
