Clutch was replaced and the reverse gear still grinded and then started popping out until it was totally gone.

Hello guys... This is my first day and I already found someone with the same problem as me. That's what I call "instant gratification". Anyway. First let me tell you that you may need to replace the transmission. It is too expensive to have this one "rebuilt". Secondly, make sure you find out why the transmission went bad, to prevent the next one from getting there too. I had a leak at the front seal (between the engine and the tranny housing). I misdiagnosed the leak, thinking it was either powersteering or engine oil. The solution to that one is easy, while the old transmission is off, and before the new one is replaced, make sure you install a new seal, or gasket (what ever you may call it). The leak basically lead to a low level of gear oil in the transmission which lead to it's destruction. As for the old one... see if anyone will give you any money for it. Maybe a shop interested in rebuilding it to re-sell it. :) Good luck. I welcome any new approaches to my "solution" and any suggestions on how to "git-r-dunn!"

I have 1996 vw jetta 2.0 and my reverse keep slipping out and will not stay in reverse..would I have to replace my whole transmission? by the way its stick shift

usually a sign that that gear set is starting to go out or has already, standard transmissions CAN be rebuilt, but it's usually easier to have a used working one put in place instead. good luck to you. does it pop out of gear?

Where do you put antifreeze in a 1996 volkswagen jetta?

As with most cars you fill it up, at your radiator, but for your Jetta their is a reservoir, just make sure you fill it up to the proper levels, the reservoir is round and in the back, and right side of engine compartment, it is for my 96 Jetta Trek.

How to remove transmission , how to replace reverse gear?

Are you sure that it is gone? make sure the all the bushing on the transmission are good it maybe that it is not able to go all the way in gear. If you do need to take it out get a good manual "Bentley" are the best it will show you the inside of the transmission too. Haynes are also good but not for working on the transmission it self

Jumps when I pull away first thing in the morning, no problem when warm (1999 Jetta GL)

the same thing happend to my 1996 jetta trek. when u put it in reverse to start off anywhere its perfectly fine. but when u put it into drive it stalls for a few seconds than jumps.
The transmission is going to go out on you anyday.
mine blew on me about a month when this started happening to me.
i was driving and the car just randomly went into neutral, tried all the gears and all i had was reverse.

took it to 2 different places to get it fixed, 1st place asked $3500, 2nd place asked $2500.
too much money so we had a family friend put a rebuilt tranny in for $1600.
