You have a broken sending unit . it could probably be located inside the tank. must be replaced. can not be repaired.
have a sending unit ready and bring down the tank then replace it.

tnx 4 using fixya,

How can gas cap loose message be linkd to my gas guage not working correctly?

My guess is the fuel tank sender unit has come adrift inside the tank somehow. Run the car to a very low tank level, locate the tank sender unit release it to access it and see if that gives you any clues. Please remember you are dealing with gasoline and all precautions should be taken. If you are not sure how to do it get a knowledgeable neighbour or good DIY tech to help. I'm pretty sure if you fix the sender problem it will stop the erratic message.

Town and Country Van running out of gas and guage says half a tank what could be the problem?

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it

My fuel gauge isnt working, it sayed over Full untill i hit half a tank then showed on F then 1/2 a tank was actually Empty. what could be wrong?

The fuel sending unit has a rhetrostat its a variable resitor ..As fuel is added the fuel lever mover along the rhetrostat and gives resitor signal to the fuel guage, the fuel gauge interpets this as level indicators to show on the gas tank.

My gas guage is not holding actual fuel level, its a 2002 GMC Yukon. Goes from empty to full within seconds and the tank is full.

Typical gm problem, the float assembly or a ground wire, Ive always run across it being the float which can be bought through the dealer seperately than the whole pump w float assembly.

Gas gauge is not reading correctly. Shows a full

the problem is caused by a defective gas gauge sending unit, this part is located inside the gas tank, you must remove the gas tank to replace it.
