I have the same problem on my Passat 2002. An error code of 420 comes up when I use my diagnostic tester. When I cleared it up through the tester it came back a couple of times and now it's been awhile and it's OK. I even bought an OEM catalyst converter for replacement but I am holding it off for now. Is there something else that could cause catalyst underperformance(other than bad coil)? By the way I had a bad coil and drove the car to the dealership (about 4 miles) with that condition. Should I go ahead and replace the catalyst converter?

Was the fault code p04020 or has it failed the mot.need more details then will be able to help

problem is bad AIR FLOW sensor! I am replaced in my 1.8T PASSAT with tuning chip 6.pcs air flow sensors over 3 years !!!!! All VW cars have a air flow problem!!!!! And not only this!!

What fuse number is the worning lights in a vw passat 2002

Hazard warning lamps fuse for 2002 VW Passat is number 39:
F39 (15A) = Hazard warning lamps

For 2002 VW Passat the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.

Dose the coils on the passat differ from the coils on the golfs. What are the specifications on the coils of the passat 1.8 T 2002 MODEL

the passat uses coil packs one for each cylinder and the 2002 golf uses one coil pack that fires all cylinder and also not the same engine in 2002. now the 2000 vw golf with the 1.8 engine uses the same coils,so if its a 2000 vw golf with a 1.8 engine then yes you can use them they are exactly the same, hope this helps.

Underperforming catalist

readings taken downstream (exhaust) with the O2 sensor are telling your computer that the catalytic converter is not doing its job well enough (it is reading too high an exhaust content of carbon monoxide or hydrocarbons) the solution is to replace the catalytic converter assuming the engine and its other management systems are performing healthy ....good luck
