have had alt checked definatly dead, and after going thru a total of three , i gave up on it being a bad alt. all three worked while the truck was warm, but as soon as i came out the next morning, they would be dead. as in right from the get go. cant figure out what could be going on at night but that seams to be when it happens.

test the alternator again, just because it is rebuilt doesn't mean it didn't fail, make sure the connectors to the alt. are tight and have no burned contacts also.

Hi,
You have a 'short circuit' in the system or a bad ground somewhere. Go online and search on the Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler forums for this issue. I've read about myself but don't recall the common cause.

Replacing the fuse the first time was the right move, becuase it could have been a fluke that it blew. Replacing it again and again was not! You should have found out EVERYTHING that the #2 fuse controlled and verified that the components weren't pulling excessive amperage (shorted condition). By replacing the fuse over and over, you might have made the problem worse by subjecting good components to something that was shorted.

BTW next time pick the oldest guy at autozone to help you, if the counter help knew their stuff they would have told you the same thing I just did!

Start all of a sudden it did'nt start

If it sat for 2 years then the battery may be loosing power and if the car starts after a few days it sounds to me like the battery isnt charging properly from the alternator so get that looked at and see if it fixes the problem.

2000 jetta has multiple alternator and battery failures

In my case, the instrument cluster was bad, causing the MFI display and radio to go haywire and putting a contstant drain on the battery. $760 to have the VW shop replace it. No problems related to the battery or alternator have occurred since.

Good luck.
