1988 dodge aries sat for about 8 months, wouldn't start. changed spark plug wires, plugs, distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil, air filter. it will finally start and run (sometimes) but when I give it...

send one bottle of fuel injector cleaner, a pint of kerosine, and 2/3 of a bottle of seafoam in the gas tank. It sounds that something in the fuel system is dirty, or is clogged up. just run that through the system, and see if that makes it better. I have done that before to my Aries, and it made it live again. also, before you change the oil, add the rest of the seafoam into your oil. it really cleans the sludge up in the engine.

My 88 dodge aries is throttle body fuel injected and when the temp falls below 30 outside, it will crank but not start. I sprayed starting fluid and it ran on that then died. it starts and runs when...

I would check for a bad coolant temperature sensor, of a bad ambient air temp. sensor. You can check these with a good voltmeter, but a scanner would make things much easier. With the scanner, you can se what the computer thinks these sensors are telling it. If it's 20 outside and one of the sensors reads something like -10, there's the problem, but a five degree variation is not enough to make a difference.

Codes for 1988 dodge aries

The codes can be pulled from this car by turning the key to off on off on off on then on the forth time leave the key in the on position and observe the check engine light it will blink in two number codes for example 3 blinks then a pause and 2 more blinks would mean code #32. Here is a link to the codes table:

http://www.troublecodes.net/chrysler/95_25sfi.shtml

These codes for a 95 2.5 should be the same for your 88.

Sincerely,

JC
