You can disconnect your battery for a short period of time, 5-10 minutes should do it. There is no guarantee that the check engine light will not come back on in time, but it will make it go away at least temporarily. If you go to Autozone, 99% of the time they will hook up a code reader and diagnose your problem. It may be a minor and/or inexpensive fix. Please vote appropriately and leave feedback. I hope this helps and good luck.
You can reset the light by disconnecting the negative battery cable for about 30 minutes. If there is still an issue with the car after running the car after reconnecting the battery it will come back on. You will need to have it checked with diagnostic tool.
this light is warning you of a serious issue concerning a failed sensor in the engine. you will need to run this vehicle in the nearest dealership for a diagnostic scan on the ecm/pcm device. this scan will give detailed info on the location of the problem and how to fix it. this scan cpu will also reset the light and it will shut off once the issue is fixed.
If you just want to shut the light off, you can just pull the battery post for a minute. this will reset the ecm but, if the issue is not fixed, the light will come back on in the coming days.
first be sure that its the engine light and not the "service" light. the service light will usually illuminate if its time for an oil change. if its the service light ur owners manual should tell u how to reset it. if its ur engine light then try disconnecting ur positive battery cable for 1 minute. that should reset ur ecm and get rid of the engine light. if the engine light comes back on then have a diagnostic scan done to determine whats causing it. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds or more and it should reset.
Mine came on after I flushed the cooling system and put new antifreeze in it.
Reset after I replaced the battery. But there are other things that can cause the light to come on.
