If you are refering to the 40 Amp Maxi Fuse located in the engine compartment fuse block, the "BTN" fuse is one of the MAIN circuits to your instrument panel fuse block. It provides power for:

electronic flasher, brake pressure switch, brake on-off (BOO) switch, door lock/unlock relays, park lamp relay, shift lock actuator, luggage compartment lamp, remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module, integrated control panel (ICP), dome/map lamp assembly, key in ignition switch, inhibit relay, powertrain control module (PCM) and the horn relay.

If this fuse is blowing, none of the things listed above will work. (and your car will not run). You will most likely find the short in the harness between the engine compartment fuse block and the instrument panel fuse block.

The wire you need to check is the RED/WHITE wire (large diameter) that goes from connector C-109 Pin 1 at the engine compartment fuse block to Connector C-240 Pin 6 at the instrument panel fuse block.

C-109 is located UNDER the engine compartment fuse block and C-240 is located BEHIND the instrument panel fuse block. To get to the actual connectors, you will have to remove the fuse blocks. However, you will most likely find the wiring harness rubbed through somewhere in the engine compartment and won't need to get to the connectors themselves.

What is on the btn fuse on a 2000 kia sephia

quote: "Since you have isolated which system is guilty you can further isolate the components. Try disconnecting the wires to the tail light assemblies (one at a time) with the fuse in place and see if the draw disappears. Do this with the brake light switch, headlight switch, and even the relays and you may be able to narrow it down to a single component or a certain strectch of wiring..."

Battery won't stay charged, it is brand new battery, alternator has been checked and it is good, blown BTN 60 watt fuse, on 1994 Mazda Protege.

The 60amp fuse probably is in the circuit between the alternator and the battery. Which would be why the battery is not getting charged.
Someone would need to check for a short in the wiring between the alternator and the battery.

93 miata, only the headlights work. it keeps blowing the btn fuse as soon as i put it in. are the diodes bad on the alternator?

Hi Lee and Chuck, Seems you have a serious short circuit in your vehicle. The fact that when the vehicle stands it will need to be jump started would seem to confirm the same. The power seems to be draining somewhere! The fuses which blow will give an indication of which circuit is shorting. If your brother wired in a music system or radio, disconnect it and then see if the fuses still blow? If they stay fine you know where to start. The music system is connected to the lights for night illumination of the controls. It may be that the earth connection has been mixed up with a power cable? If the vehicle runs fine during the day and does not give problems when restarting, it would be doubtful that there is damage to the alternator. You can check it fairly easily by connecting a test meter to each of the terminals. Start the vehicle and if while cranking the voltage drops below 8 volts, get the battery replaced. If it remains at about ten during starting that's fine. Measure the battery voltage before starting and confirm 12 volts. Once started the voltage should be at about 13 volts if the alternator is charging and when the horn is pressed and the wipers turned on together with the heated window, the voltage should climb to about 13 and a half volts. If the voltage remains unchanged or drops the alternator is damaged. Usually the head lights would be turned on to carry out this simple test but as the fuses blow you can do that when you've found the short circuit. Good luck and best regards John
