Question about 1984 Chevrolet Caprice

1 Answer

Fuel/ Acceleration I have a 1984 Chevrolet Caprice Classic. I was driving and I could not accelerate over 65. It runs good until the moment I get to 65 and it start to ****, etc. I am thinking that maybe it's something in the fuel assembly, maybe the fuel filter, pump, or the carburetor. I even thought about the catalytic converter being stopped up.

Yes, probably the inline fuel filter on the carb, they use a small paper type filter that clogs up after awhile with junk from the gas tank. also your car will probably hold back if you try to accelerate hard, such as trying enter a freeway.........

Have 95 chev caprice classic, engine running rough, replaced spark plugs and wires, it is getting good fire but the problem with rough running is worse. does this car have a distributor cap and rotor...

Not sure what engine you have in your car? If you have the V8 then I think you should have a cap and rotor. If so change them. The V6 may just have a coil pack. Just follow your wire from the plug and the other end either goes to a cap or a coil pack. Did you replace your fuel filer? If not then do so and if that doesn't help I would perform a fuel pressure test to make sure the fuel pump is working at the proper pressure.

1991 chevy caprice , very low acceleration on running engine cold, live in minnesota, very cold, runs good after warming up, will only go 12 mph when cold

Hello: If the engine is racing (high RPM) when only going 12mph the it sounds like the transmission is slipping. (I grew up in southwestern Minnesota)

Hesitates when going 55mph

How does it perform acceleration wise up to 55 mph? If good, then I'd have exhaust checked for restriction as well, as in plugged catalytic converter.

Wipers not working, buzzing sound at relay, sluggish acceleration

The relay probably belong to a bad installed alarm system. You will need to an electricist check if they exist and uninstall it for complete and reinstall it (only with both manuals at hand, car and alarm) Try to use a scanner for the another problem to not be an adivine and let us know if this do not solvent problem

Momentarily Sluggish Acceleration

Are you loosing power to the ecu when the car is shut down? most cars with an ECU that controls timing, fuel, or boost can be forced to relearn the car if the ECU looses power (called a "limp" mode). I'd look into this. Also are you getting any check engine lights? considering the description of the problem, this would help to diagnose. Try getting the car started and running normally, then turn the car off but do not kill the power to the car, just stop the motor from running...Fire the engine back up and try to give the car a good stomp on the gas and see if you get the same sluggish problems...my 2 cents... Good luck future auto DIY's
