Question about 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

VW Jetta 2005 engine indentification needed

My dealer has the engine on my VW Jetta 2005 TDI coded as "ALH". From what I can find on the internet using the VIN code, 8th digit of "M", the engine code should be "BEW". A friend of mine has a engine coded "ALH" and that engine has the injectors installed from outside the engine block and a fuel pump/injector where my engine the injectors are inside the head of the engine and only a fuel pump on one end of the engine. I am just trying to verify the correct engine in my Jetta. Thanks

I understand the manufacturer's computer data, but when you set a "ALH" engine beside my Jetta, compare the two engines and they do not match physically, I do not believe they are the same engines. I can not install the fuel pump/injector from the "ALH" engine onto my engine, and the injectors on the "ALH" engine are removed from the front of the block of the engine from outside the engine, on my engine to get to the injectors you must remove them from within the head of the engine under the valve springs. To me the two engines are not the same. If it will help I can take photos of my engine, just let me know where to send them. Thanks for any help.

The dealer gets there build info via computer link to the manufacturer data base for paticular car, you can be 99.99% it is correct.

What digit in the serial number determines the engine in a 2004 VW Jetta Wagon TDI?

I don't think there's a particular digit for the engine code. If you call a dealer parts department though, they should be able to decode it for you.

Epc light on no gas flow

There is no throttle body on a TDI, but continuing to crank you engine with no fuel pressure will absolutely fry your pump and/or injectors (An '03 could be either an ALH or a PD engine, - different fuel injection systems, but same disastrous result in either).
Here's my .02:
DO NOT let a VW dealer touch your TDI. They commonly throw parts at it until the problem either goes away or they throw up their hands and say "I dunno". Either way, people routinely waste a boatload of time and money with no relief when taking their TDI to a VW dealer.
Go to TDIClub.com and look for a trusted TDI Guru near you (there's a list by state) and have one of these guys look at it. They're very helpful and more knowledgeable than 95% of VW dealers.
Good luck.

2000 Jetta TDI: How do I change spark plugs on 2000 VW jetta 2.0...

You're in the TDI (diesel) solutions section so it uses glow plugs.
If it's a petrol engine 2.0L then it would be accessible above and below intake manifold using a swivel spark plug deep socket.

02 VW Jetta TDI with ALH engine glow plug

this is a common problem for these cars glow plugs go bad like spark plugs however the smoke would lead to bad mass airflow meter. it is not telling ecu corrcet miss. disconnect mass airflow meter. when cold see if this makes it start better. it should would means you need new m.a.f. glow plug issue take a test light place clamp on positive of battery then pull off glow plug connectors place tip of test light on glow plug the bad one will have a dull light unlike the good one which will be brighter. will need new plugs and wire harness four **** connectors and wire striper and crimper will fix concern good luck

I have a 1998 vw jetta tdi 5spd, it is getting hard to shift have to hold clutch to floor and still is rough to shift. Can it be adjusted or is there something I should be checking?

Jetta TDI manual from 1998 was always going with 5 gear speed and with hudraulic clutch. First off all make shure that you don't have any air in this hydraulic. After you are shure that pushing pedal is effective you may think about changing your clutch set. Depending what engine do you have 1Z,ALH or AFN there're diferent clucthes and prices

there are a few things that you may check but i will not guarantee that they will work. check the throttle cable for any slack or wearing. also try to check the idler.
