Have you confirmed that you are getting fuel into the combustion chamber. If this is a carburetor model, the needle might be stuck against the seat in the float chamber, especially if the new motor has been standing for sum time.
normally a quick clicking sound means that the battery is low in voltage and amperage, but first check your connectors and the battery posts to make sure they are clean and secure. if you have a tester, check for voltage at the battery, you should be getting 12 volts or more.if you have 12 volts+,turn on the headlights and test the battery to see if it is retaining 12 volts or not, this is known as a load test. if voltage falls rapidly your battery should be changed.if it holds charge pretty well, than put thr battery on slow charge overnight and retry starting the vehicule.nb. the clicking noise is caused by the onboard computer that reads the voltage before startup and under 11.5 volts your car will make this sound.if your car starts put the tester on the battery again and check voltage,it should be 13volts or higher which means your alternator is charging the battery.
Why change battery and alt? Both failed together, not likely. Clicking of the starter solenoid has for decades been a battery gone bad or a starter issue. Solenoid or starter motor brushes etc. What relationship has the sitting and not starting have to do with it. The alt only keeps the battery charged if it the alt can not supply the current needed to run the veh and draws on the battery. That battery keeps the computer memories live and turns the starter over. New battery. Are all the ground wires clean and tight? There may be Relays for the starting circuit. Please do not throw parts at it. Take it to the very best, close by repair facility or dealer.
