This may be a silly question but have you checked your fuel filter? If not it may be worth a check or a change in any case (they only cost about a tenner) I'm pritty certain it is the same filter for all XType petrol Jaguar part number C2S20906 but have your local components supplier check against your VIN. The filter is located under the car at the rear RH side door about 8-10 inches in forward of the fuel tank.
You will see a large black or silver unit with a greeny/blue buttons. The connectors are push fit just squeeze the two blue buttons together and pull the fuel line off, on the other squeeze the grey buttons and pull the fuel line off. When replacing ensure that you note the direction of flow on the filter and fit accordingly. Once refitted switch the ignition to position 2 but do not start the engine. Wait 10 secs then turn off. Repeat this once or twice.
It could be that you have picked up a batch of dirty fuel that has clogged the gauze input filter that is part of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. This would cause some fuel starvation which is indicated by the misfiring.
For 2002 Jaguar S-Type 4.0L SFI DOHC 8cylthe Fuel Filter is located under vehicle, driver side, below engine area, rear of wheelwell, mounted in fuel line.
1) jack-up left front of car (drivers-side)and remove wheel.
2) Remove plastic inner fender .
The maintenance schedule is every 12-thousand miles.
Caution prior to removing fuel filter-
Pull the fuel pump relay or fuse while engine is running, this will
disable the electric fuel pump and release fuel pressure in line.
this is a old model and it should have a cold start valve or it should have a coolant temp sensor, replace the colant temp sensor which is usualy located on the thermostat housing or on the intake manifold and this will sove the clod start problema!!
