Question about 1991 Ford Escort

1 Answer

Seatbelt issues Obviously ford's garbage automatic seatbelts have broken and they are to expensive to order new, so i ordered new universal manual seatbelts which seem to have only one bolt hole to attach the part below the seat. Ford has two bolt attachment points in the chassis. Is this right or safe?

It is not safe if the seat belts are hooked to the original chassis points, in a crash there will be 1000's of pounds pulling on these, the mounting may tear the body metal and cause serious injury, I would strongly recommend you fix the original system, how much is your well being worth in a crash?

Seat belts are are a critical safety item and if faulty must be replaced with a new item. If it just stops the belt from coming out check for something interfering with the belt action.

You must either disconnect it or replace it. There are no new parts so contact local salvage yards for a used one in good working order. You can also go online and find one by doing a "used Ford car parts" google search.

Warning light came on this morning, figure of a man with the seatbelt. What does this indicate?

This is the seatbelt indicator, its not seeing that your seatbelt is fastened ifthe light stays on and the chime keeps going off.

There is a switch inthe seatbelt that closes when the seatbelt is buckled, and if not, thelight stays on and the chime goes off.

There are a couple reasons thiscould happen. It could be a wiring issue going to the seatbelt buckle,or more likely the buckle itself. Your truck is pretty new, so if youare under 36,000 miles the repair would normally be covered underwarranty.

Also, I suggest check the Repair Manual for Jeep-WK-Grand-Cherokee-Section-08O-Restraints (page 473 and next, for Seat Belt)

Hope helps with this (remember rated this) Good luck.

Seatbelt lock reset on f-150 pick up

rear seat belts lock if you pull them out all the way and put them ALR mode. Automatic Locking Restraint. It will ratchet as the belt is rewound. This is for holding a child seat in place.

Is this your issue?

I have a 2006 Ford Explorer and the passenger seatbelt won't retract; so passenger cannot use the seatbelt. Subsequently, the seatbelt chimer never goes off. How can I correct this?

will have to take the side panel off where the belt is located make sure no twists are present. if not pull it hard and see if it retracts, if it still does not retract you may have to replace the unit.
the retraction spring in the unit is broken, or the lock mechanism has failed.

Seatbelt Unlatches

This sounds like something broken in the latch. Do yourself a favor. Before it comes unlatched in an accident, go to your local dealer and get a replacement latch ASAP. That is one device in a car you shouldn't ever have to question. If it doesn't work right, replace it.

Seatbelt on 2007 ford fusion

It is a safety latch that is doing it's job.

If you wreck the car the belt stops preventing you from hitting the dash or going through the windshield.

Try this test to make sure they work:
Get in the car and start it,

Put your foot on the brake, and put the seatbelt on -

Now yank on the shoulder part real hard if it doesn't stop immediatly you should get it replaced.
