Transmission is all electronically controlled , no vacuum hose's to transmission .
Which trans does it have ? continuously variable transaxle (CVT)
or 6 speed automatic
This transaxle is a compact, lightweight, next generation electronically controlled, 6-speed automatic transaxle that employs a Ravigeneaux-type planetary gear.

Need to see diagram for 88 jeep Cherokee Laredo straight 6 for vacuum line for transmission

in the USA? 4.0L engine.
TRANSMISSION VAC>.
So that be automatic.
and some have a vacuum modulator.
some dont.
if it does, its just a vacuum line from the modulator to the plenum.
the modulator uses hard vacuum to sense engine load, to delay shifting/

some EPA hood stickers fail to show this hose.
because its a trans hose and not related to smog.
only this is covered in the FSM.
surely you can find the empty nipple in the plenum
but is this and engine swap, and missing this?

I owned 3 1988 2 JX and 1 Comanche.

id find a vaccum line under full vacuum under idle. 20inches is typcal. (cant find real nipple?)
then add TEE fitting to this line and to trans.
end story.

there are 2 kinds of vacuum./
vsv solenoid switched, (like that on EGR)
direct plenum vacuum (bingo!)
and ported vacuum, weak or no vacuum at all at idle.

easy huh?, just use the hard vacuum line,, or make one.

Open hood , passenger side firewall area, look for a thin, black vacuum line, follow it and look for any breaks or bad connection to its vacuum source. repair as necessary.

2004 ford f150 4 wheel high will not engage 4 low will has manual shift

Operationally vacuum holds the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) out, and once vac is removed the spring engages the IWE.

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

- If the front drive shaft does not turn :
Shut of the truck ( still jacked up, and supported ) remove the vac lines from the IWE. The spring should push the gears in, without the vac line on.
Check the vent line ( tube that is routed into the engine compartment with nothing attached to it ), for blockages.
If the vent line is clear, and with the vac lines off the IWE should be engaged ( both front wheels locked ).
If they lock, the problem is with the IWE solenoid not shutting off vacuum to the IWEs. There is a TSB on the 2004-2006 IWE solenoids, a newer revision has been made, and used from 2007 and newer MYs.

When i switch my heat or air from defrost to aut or vis versa the air only comes out defrost vents what wrong?

The vent doors in and under the dash are conrolled by vacuum lines. Checkthese plastic doors to see if they opperate smoothly and the vacuum hoses are hooked up right. See where the vac lines come from and make sure they r hooked up. Also make sure the vent direction switch is hooked up to the vac lines. Good luck

We a vac line on the top of the tranny.cant find where to attached it. the new motor is reall hard to start.it pops and smells like it flooding. it came with the trotle body on the motor should i replace...

The pops and the disconnected vac(uum) line and the smell of fuel may al be related. The vacuum line to the auto transmission is there to tell that gear shift about the level of load that the engine is under. When you first start the car and accelerate really slowly notice how quickly the gear box shifts up through the gears. However if you accelerate hard the transmission holds each gear for a long time to take advantage of the high power delivered by the high engine speed. The vacuum line conveys to the transmission the level of vacuum in the inlet plenum manifold. When you accelerate slowly the throttle plates only opens a small amount and maintains a strong vacuum level. This vacuum permits the transmission to shift up through the gears quickly. If hard acceleration is demanded the throttle plate is fully open and there is almost no vacuum. The lack of vacuum on the transmission restricts gear shifts. The vacuum lie usually makes connection with the transmission on the left (facing towards the front of the car) near the selector switch. The other end of this line must make connection with a port on the inlet manifold plenum or runner (on my car the port connection is actually very close to the injector on the inlet runner towards the back of the engine). The open connection port is causing the other problems. With un-metered air entering the plenum (not passing through the throttle) the engine computer is struggling to keep the injection times long enough to keep the fuel to air mix balanced. This gives rise to very uneven running and perhaps the 'pops' and smell of fuel that you are experiencing. Locate the connection and stick the vacuum line from the transmission on it. Make sure that there no further leaks compromising the inlet vacuum. Make sure the interior of your 'new' throttle is very clean. All of these things help and add up to a better running engine.

AC blowing through defrost vents only. What could be causing this?

either no vacuum is getting to the vent door switch or the vent door switch is bad, but I suspect the vac hose is diconnected, or cracked. under the hood the line goes into the dash to work the doors, make sure its got vacuum to it when engine is running., or there is a vac leak

4 wheel drive not engaging

The neutral/foot on brake or park is only if you are shifting into 4L. If you are shifting into 4H, applying light throttle up to 55 mph shift on the fly is fine ( per owners manual ).

Here is a block diagram of the IWE system

If the front drive shaft turns, I have seen some lightly hit the back of the transfer case, to free up the shift motor, with mixed results.
If you had a vacuum leak, the front wheels would be locked in, or poping in and out of locked in, causing a grinding noise ( IWE gears not engaging fully, grinding the teeth off ).

If you find a problem with the vacuum lines or the IWE solenoids, you can pull the vacuum lines and plug them, this would leave the front wheels locked in all the time. Fine for short use, don't try racing like this ( pushing a dead axle is a lot of HP requirements )

Vacuum lines under dash that control ac and heating vents,

I assume you are referring to the white housing that joins the colored dash vac lines into the vac lines of the head unit. You can find a diagram, repair instructions, and explanations at Ramchargercentral.com...just do a thread search on "dash vac lines".
