Question about 2004 Saturn VUE
Have a 5 speed 04 front wheel drive saturn vue - will be driving along and without warning, engine light kicks on and power down engine light kicks on. car will go along for several hundred yards and then will power down to a point where I can't accelerate and have to pull over to the side of the road. If I leave the car overnight - problem disappears. No codes recorded....no further problems until again without anything I can detect, situation will occur again - exactly the same way.
Sounds like yourvehicle is going into 'limp mode' designed to get you home in event of a fault that may cause irreparable damage if it was to continue on full power. With diesels this can happen if exhaust filters among others get blocked or need replacing.
Only answer is to take it to dealer (nasty word) or perhaps Halfords and get them to do an engine management readout which should pin point the trouble. (On my diesel it was down to the diesel additive tank running low, quote from dealer £406, did it myself for £70...shop around.

I don't have the answer my friend BUT, the computer believes there's something wrong so it puts the vehicle into "Limp Home Mode". You say it isn't giving you a code to figure what's wrong but the computer memory will show it. No mistake. That's what it's there for. Take it to an Auto Zone parts and tell them what's going on. They will get the code for you and not charge you for it in hopes THEY will get the job of repairs and parts.

Yup. The throttle body connectors have a history of failing on these cars. Replace the throttle body and the wire connectors that go to it, and you're back in business. Not terribly difficult and you can get the parts from any dealer. Saturn actually has a bulletin out on this problem but they won't cover it unless you're under warranty - no recall for this.

Vues are bad for having all hub bearings make noise, check your rear ones.Or the ones you didn't have replaced. If it's all wheel drive check the propshaft center carrier bearing.Common to fail & make noise.hope this helps

How have you arrived at your conclusion? Have you manually switched the gears by hand at the shifter control on the linkage where it connects to the transmission? If it is still stiff, your problem may be in your hand(so to speak), at the linkage Lubricate it. Another place is below shifter knob a $45 dollar part may be worn. If you have eliminated low fluid levels and do not detect any leaks in your hydraulic clutch fluids you may be looking at another more expensive repair.
