Might check the vent on trans,,(not transfer case if 4wheel drive),,if the vent is pluged up little,, it will blowfluid out of dipstick are,, and cause smoke and light to come on at times,, as tranny is being over worked,, from getting to hot,, and low on fluid

How do I add transmission fluid to a 1999 Ford Expedition

The vehicle should have a dip stick where you can check the transmission fluid, that same place where you pull the trani dip stick out is where you refill it. Remember to keep the vehicle running for a couple minutes before checking the level and do not turn it off, unless you filling it up or adding some fluid. If there is no dip stick then you will most likely have to go to the dealorship and have them take a look, in some cases depeding on model the dip stick will not be there.

Hope this Helps!

Were is the dipstick at

WHICH DIP STICK OIL DIP STICK FRONT OF ENGINE BELOW FRONT VALVE COVER.THE TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE A DIP STICK IT HAS A VENT FILLER CAP.THE GARAGE HAS TO PUT CAR ON A LIFT TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID BY REMOVING A CHECK PLUG.IF TOO FLUID COMES OUT PLUG HOLE TOO MUCH FLUID IN TRANSMISSION IF NO FLUID COMES OUT NEED TO ADD SOME.IF A SMALL SLOW DRIP COME OUT TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL IS OKAY.SEE THE GARAGE HAS TO RAISE VECHICLE UP WHILE RUNNING IT HAS TO BE LEVEL THEY REMOVE THE CHECK PLUG TO SEE HOW MUCH FLUID IN TRANSMISSION.ITS DANGEROUS TO DO IT YOUR SELF.

Having trouble locating were the transmission

Looking at the car from the front, the dip stick for the transaxle is down very low at the left hand side of the engine, close to being under the battery. It is normally yellow. Follow the large water hose that runs down next to your battery. The yellow dip stick handle is right along side of that hose (to the right of it) down low. It will either pull out or unscrew.
Hope this helps you.

Transmission fluid

NO, there is a transmission dipstick to check the level of transmission fluid, this is also where you would add transmission fluid if it is low.
