TDC stands for Top Dead Center, however it is only to set the cylinder number ! at TDC, if yu know where the timing marks are align the crank pulley mark to the "0" of the timing mark, usually this can be achieved by setting the crank shaft doel pin to twelve 0 clock position.

Top Dead Center (TDC) . There is a mark on the timing cover just above the crankshaft which has TDC and the degrees BTDC (before top dead center). But you want yours to be TDC. remove sparkplug # 1. using a screw driver or some other long shaft insert it into the spark plug hole. Not all the way just a little. Turn the motor manually on nutreal until the cylinder is at the top. The screwdriver will serve to know when it is the top. Because you can feel the cylinder at the top. Before turning the distributor rotor, mark where the Number 1 wire is at on the distributer. Now remove the distributor cap and turn the rotor to the number one position wire where you marked it before. replace the distributer cap, then replace the spark plug and you are timed. You may have to adjust the distributer by turning it a tiny bit at a time in either direction.tighten the bolt holding the distributer .and your done.

Need how to set timing belt on kia optima

I had 2006 kia optima 2.4 liter LX, I drove 150000 miles plus, it was over 100,000 miles I changed timing belt, and AC belt, alternator belt is still ok, but it was my fault, I did not change crank shaft balance belt, it next to timing belt, this very important, timing belt and crank shaft balance belt must change same time, you set all mark the same positions, you can see all clear marked
if you had OBD2 scanner is helpful to read all faulty codes if you do it your self repair
if you have any problems about KIA optima, please post on any websites, to share some ideas to other KIA optima owners, like me, I change oil every 2500 miles to make my optima runs smoother
automatic transmission fluid change every year if you put high mileage on your car, optima had hard time to find it own part some time, radiator hoses are still good condition and had hard time to find in any auto part stores in my home town, good luck and thanks for sharing.

2005 Kia Optima -replaced timing belt component kit and crank shaft cencors and there compression. No spark getting to the spark plugs now. Car will not start.

you need to correct the timing belt, remove the appropriate parts and time the engine back to TDC. then check for slack on the 'power' side of the belt, adjust the tension on that side.

***BE SURE THAT THERE IS NO SLACK ON THE POWER SIDE OF THE TIMING BELT***

How to set timing when installing new timing belt on a 2001 kia 2.4 li ingine

Welcome to FIxYa.com

Make sure to disconnect the connector (see diagram) to get base timing. This will disconnect from computed timing.

HOW TO PUT A TIMING BELT ON TIME?

try a do it yourself manuel by haynes or chilton , you might find your make and year ,model at a half priced book store , or full price at the auto parts stores. from my own kias there is no adjustment . you have to replace them. but i dont have an optima , i have a rio and spectra and had a sephia. try calling the dealership and ask how much do they charge to set the timing. if they say couple $$$ or say they have to replace the belts you will know for free.

Does anyone know where i can find out what the settings are suppose to be for the timing belt on a 2004 kia optima?

well you can go ask a part store employee in the back to see if they could help you out most of the time they will go and open a chilltons book for your make and model of car and tell you or write it down for you. Hope that helps.

Car dies when driving, check engine light comes on.

There is a good chance it could be your fuel pump , however if the check engine light is coming on and the dealer cant tell you what is wrong , try a different dealer or another shop. Second opinions never hurt.
