I've been having the same problem and I've narrowed it down to something with the security system. Seems that whenever the security light is flashing when I try to start it, it won't start. If the light is on but not flashing, it will start. I looked in the manual and it said something about the ignition not recognizing the key so it goes into a shut down mode.

I haven't fixed the problem yet and was wondering if anyone had a solution. The only thing I can think of to do is go to the dealer and get the key reprogrammed.

Check your fuses, your battery that it is fully charged, your battery connections at both ends of the cables, check to see that a wire has not fallen off or burnt off of the starter. If none of these work rmove the starter and becch test the starter. Prior to bench testing the starter try hitting the side of the starter with a hammer a couple of time , as they some times stick or end up on a flat spoton the armature which will not allow the current through. Hope that this helps if not let me know and we will try a few other things. If one of these solutions helps please take the time to rate this site thank you and good luck.

Put key in,turn key to start position, nothing happens

We'll go from the more obvious to more complex:
- Is the battery charged
-are battery terminals clean
- are battery cables tight on ALL connections, including starter, ground
- Do the lights and accessories come on
- when ignition switch is turned to start, is there a clicking sound (this would be the starter solenoid engaging)
-Does vehicle have a security system that when engaged prevents it to start
- Did this problem exist before or did it just appear abruptly.
-check fuses
-put shifter lever in N -try to start( possible bad neutral safety switch)

My 2001mazada tribute has been sitting for six months when i try to start it nothing happens not even clicking.I have charged the battery and have power to the car but still does nothing

If you're not getting any kind of a click with a turn of the key it sounds to me like the starter is not getting power. If you turn the key to the start position and don't hear anything, not even a click it's usually because the starter is not getting power, or it has seized. Try swapping the starter relay with another similar relay to test it. If that doesn't do the trick, remove the starter and take it to any parts store to have it tested for free. (it is also possible that the battery only has enough juice to power the lights and not engage the starter after sitting for six months...I know you said you charged it, but if you happen to take the starter to have it tested, do the same for the battery.)

When i turn the key it just makes a click sound and nothing happens

If the battery is charged and the cables are clean, you are probably hearing the starter solenoid on the starter trying to engage.
If the starter can not be jumped directly, I would agree the starter is faulty.

Hi:) That sound like the solenoid is the problem it is located on the starter and if the solenoid is not working right it will do all the things you are explaining. And yes heat has alot to do with it and being ware out.If it is the original it is time to replace the starter anyways it's 16 years old.

1996 Infiniti I30 turn key and barely turns over

The problem is almost certainly the starter and not the battery. Once a battery gets to the point that you turn the key and nothing, not even clicking takes place, it is highly unlikely that after a few minutes it will turn over. However, the corrosion is an indication that the battery will need to be replaced anyway. Normally, the starter in the beginning stages of complete failure will do exactly what you described, turn the key and nothing, no noise, no clicking, nothing. I have seen starters that will start the car after doing that if the vehicle sits for a little while. The starter will engage fewer and fewer times until it finally completely fails. Sometimes, when you turn the key and nothing happens, you can have someone tap on the starter with a bar or something with a little weight while you are attempting to start it and it may start. The starter on that car is on the drivers side of the engine, toward the front, down low. I would suggest taking your car to a AutoZone, or parts store, or even Wal-Mart and have the battery tested, as that regardless of the starter issue, you are going to need a battery. Another thing, Infiniti starters will make a wheezing sound for a second as the car is starting, so listen if you can get it started again and see if you hear that sound. Hope this helps you and good luck.

Nothing happens when I turn the key

Starter relay clicks but starter is not turns over. Check the starter connections and starter itself.
Good Luck
