Question about 2002 Daewoo Lanos

Fuel delivery problem

Hi all... I've been fighting my car now for 3 weeks. It would start after 10 - 20 trys. Run sluggish like it is starved for fuel. Took it into your pals at Napa. Diagnosis, only 14 lbs of fuel pressure at fuel rail. Need a new fuel pump. New pump installed, new filter, clear fuel line. Same problem, but now it won't even start.

I'm about to bite the bullet and take it into a dealer, but they have all dried up here in Arizona. Nobody to even rake me over the coals.
Any suggestions...?

Stormbrewin...Pressure should have been 40 - 45. (only14). Problem started 3 weeks ago. After the starting struggles I was able to drive it from A to B. It chugged a bit and was not alot of fun to drive in traffic, yikes. I swapped the fuel pump relay, no change. I will swap the fuel pump fuse in the a.m. just for giggles.

Was the pressure relief valve checked?Try crimping without damaging the fuel return line ,Get somebody to try to start the vehicle while you do this, if it trys to start either the pump has failed again or the fuel is bypassing and being returned to the fuel tank. How long before replacement of pump and breakdown? Did they tell you what pressure it was supposed to be at.I have seen an ignition module give very similar symptoms.

Its a lot easier to fix a problem with bum up and head in the engine bay than it is to do online but it is good to have a win knowing someone is better off for it .Considering that you have already replaced most of the important parts of the fuel system and your really no better offf you have to check that you have spark at the plugs .Do you know anyone that can remove a spark plug and check that you have an ignition good enough to ignite the fuel.should be a strong blueish color not yellow and weak.

Runs fine then it trys to die and runs very ruff acts like its starving for fuel changed fuel filter and still does it ?

Check the fuel pump pressure.
Also; when you use gas with ethanol, it attracts humidity that can turn into water during storage.
The answer is premium fuel.

I have a 94 Caprice 4.3 v8 and the past week it will run fine the acts like it's not getting enough fuel back fire real loud and die and it takes bout 10 mins before it will start again then when it does...

not starving fuel but "flooding out" and putting unburnt fuel in the exhaust system which ignites and damages mufflers and cat converters
check for excessive fuel pressure or bad /leaking injectors

Starting trouble 2000 suburu outback

From the way you are describing your problem it seems to me that your fuel pump is in the process of dying. The whirring noise is as if the pump is gasping for life. Your problem sounds like a fuel delivery problem. If you take a preasure test of pump you may find that you need a new pump. Good Luck Friend.

'94 Maxda Protege automatic transmission--no upshift, overdrive

Try changing the fuel filter. Many times fuel problems can be mistaken for transmission problems because the motor is starving for gas.

If i stop or let idle i feels like its being starved for fuel.. turn off the engine and start it again it runs fine till i stop again. Just replaced the fuel pump a week ago and has been running fine.

Mine did that to me about 4 months ago. I started by changing the fuel filter it ran great for a month. but by doing that it released all the pressure off of the fuel pump which then went out. If you run your vehicle below 1/4 tank it starves the fuel pump. The pump needs that fuel because; The fuel is the lubrication for the pump. Running your tank down consistently over a period of time will short the pump out faster.

Spark, but not firing

Three things are required for an engine to run: 1] Fuel/Air Mixture; 2] Compression; and 3] Ignition (Spark). Since you advise spark is present, and barring major mechanical malfunction we'll assume compression is also... which leaves fuel. The easiest way to verify a fuel delivery problem is to remove air cleaner and spray starter fluid or carb cleaner into the air intake and try starting with substitute "fuel". If it trys to run briefly, then you are not getting gas to the engine. Check the fuel pump fuses, as these can blow. The newer cars also have a impact detection device that will shut down fuel delivery if a frontal impact has occurred, but these sometimes are too sensitive and misfire from a minor bump. That would have to be reset by a qualified tech. If the fuses are good, you might need to replace the fuel pump, but check the wiring connections first. The Durango probably has a submersible electric pump mounted inside the gas tank, and they can be a challenge to change out, plus the new high pressure injection pumps are a little pricey for what they are, but if you gotta have it, you GOTTA HAVE IT!
Good luck with the Durango... Hope this helped.
