Question about 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Tdi transmission i have a 2001 jetta tdi. runs great just need to know how to change the fluid and the filter on the transmission. I am very mechanically inclined but havent tried the jetta tdi transmission before. thought i would get some pointers before i tear my commuter car apart. I would imagine i get the fluid and filter from vw dealer. How do I add it once i pull the pan and change the filter. the service guy at york vw told me there was a dipstick to check the fluid level, but unless im overlooking something I havent found one yet. If there isnt one< hope the techs are more knowledgable. LOL Thanks for any help.

2001 vw jetta changing trans oil

Your 2001 VW Jetta is likely equipped with a "sealed" transmission unit. There is no dipstick that you can use to measure the level of transmission fluid in sealed transmissions. Unfortunately, it's a dealer item that needs to be addressed by a qualified mechanic or at a VW dealer.

2002 jetta transmission cannot shift unless the car is worm enough for about 20-30 min then the trans will work fine .

you might try a trans service where they change the fluid and filter as well as flush the system. when it shifts does it slip if it does you'll need the trans rebuilt

Does my 2001 Jetta TDI have to use a special type of transmission oil or fluid?

Automatic or manual? They use normal fluids, unlike Audi's (powersteering) where some needed the synthetic green stuff or else the seals would go. There are really good synthetic fluids available that are much better and last longer. Check out the VWvortex forum for lots of great VW info.

Cheers,

Transmission oil should be replaced every 45,000 to 60,000 miles/ 60,000 to 100,000 KM to ensure the transmission will last a long time.

2006 Jetta TDI Tiptronic Maintenance

The tiptronic is not the DSG - two separate transmissions. You don't need to service the tiptronic every 40k like you do the DSG.
VW considers the fluid in a Tiptronic tranny as "lifetime" fluid - it doesn't need to be changed.

2001 tdi transmission wont go in gear until car is warmed up

if this is an automatic they are known for having many issues. It will require an inspection to diagnose the cause. If its a manual you probably need to change the fluid either way an inspection by a transmission shop should be done

I like to ck transm oil

In any Jetta you are not able to ckeck transmission fluid when the manufacture builds them the fluid is garanteed for the life of the car. However you can change the fluid but it is very expensive about 40.00 per quart of reccomended fluid and if you do change the fluid the transmission filter is inside the transmission but it is not very hard to get to. If you have any more questions let us know.
