Question about 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

1998 Nissan Pathfinder Turns off While driving..

I have a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder, and the engine turns off while I'm driving.

This is a problem I've had for the last week or so.. Haven't taken it in to the mech. yet.

Luckily the car hasn't turn off while moving... But only when I'm stopped at a light or something after stepping on the brakes. The engine hiccups and the next thing I know, car turns off with the "engine service soon" light illuminating.

If I put the car (obviously) back to "Park" and turn the key in the ignition my car has EVERY TIME turned back on, but lately it turns off more suddenly!

Please help me out

Check for a loose ground cable connection and inspect the distributor and inside the cap for excessive wear or signs of issues like leaks or metal shavings.

SOURCE: 1998 nissan altima gxe -ignition problem

Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again

SOURCE: transmission stuck in 5th gear???

have your mechanic take a special hadr look at the cam pos sensor. we have seen this problem alot out of those vehicles and this seems to fix them without replacing the trans.

SOURCE: service engine soon, TCS off, SLIP

The oil change wouldn't cause this problem. Just in-case, check the engine oil level.

There are many emission sensors in the car that will make the engine light come ON. Best way to find out what's going on is to have an auto-parts store hook up a engine code reader and tell you what the code means. Most auto-part store will do this for free.

Could be the oil pump.

Could be a major blockage in the lubrication system possibly due to major sludge build up.

Could be a faulty oil pressure relief valve.

1. How many miles are clocked up on the car?
2. How often does the engine oil and oil filter get changed in the car? Every 6000 miles for example.

Fuel air mixture too rich on a 98 nissan pathfinder

My guess would be a fuel injector or fuel pressure regulator problem, or a Mass air flow sensor.
The O2 sensor does not come into play until the engine has run for a couple of minutes.

When I put my 1997 nissan pathfinder in gear it wont go it only reves and it has been high reveing on it own when im driving for last week or so now it wont go at all ???

First thing, put the transmission in park, start the engine, with the engine at idle, check the fluid level with the dipstick. If it's low, add fluid and try it again.
If it still doesn't move and your are sure that it is full of fluid, then you most likely have an internal tyranny problem that would require an overhaul. have a good day !!

I have a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. When the truck

you could possibly have a throttle positioning sensor going bad... you could also check to see if you have an idle air control valve.... that would also make the rpm go up while the foot is on brake, the engine is hunting for fuel... hope this helps

The gas gauge is not registering when gas is put in the van

I don`t know this particular car but I don`t think the dissy has anything to do with the fuel gauge. Did the fuel gauge work perfectly before?? If so, you`ll probably find that you`ve disturbed a connector which goes to the sender unit. It`s very easy to do, I`ve done it myself and it`s VERY annoying to find you`ve sorted one fault only to find that you`ve caused another fault. Just go over everything that you`ve touched and done to the car. Did you short something out when you were replacing the cap, if so, you`ll probably find that a fuse has failed and it`s not just the gauge that doesn`t work. All the best, Ian
