same problem here ! seems that the car was parked on a hill with the transmission in park and went to start it up and nothing. Had to push shift forward to make car start but since this time, shifting into reverse is difficult and the positioning of shift doesn't coincide with P R N D 2 1 indicators. I think the torque of being on the hill in Park without the emergency brake on 1st caused the misalignment. I have yet to repair but I think the interior shifter housing is coming off next to see if I can find anything obvious.

If the car's a standard, it'll more than likely be the shifter linkage. Saab's linkage involves a lot of plastic that will crack and wear over time. A reputable European car repair service should be able to get the parts and fix the linkage. It's not cheap.

Check fuses and relays first. Then check the wire connections at the motor. Sometimes the plugs get corroded and just need cleaned up and put back on.

My key is stuck in the ignition on my 97 Saab 900. It starts ok just when I turn it to the lock position the key wont come out. Any Ideas.

Some Saabs lock the gearlever in reverse as a security measure, and won't let you take the key out until reverse is selected.

91 Saab 900 Ignition switch is stuck in lockout can not turn key.

I know this is a common enough problem since one in my family had the same. They had to replace the entire ignition switch.

Try a backup key, if you have one. If not, You can have a copy of yours made which MAY just have sharp enough edges to work again -however unlikely. Sometimes a few drops of oil can loosen a stuck lock too ;/
You can have a locksmith make a custom key for you, or get a new assembly with keys from a salvage yard etc.

The check gear box light is on, car does not shift into revers

Hi,It might be worth giving your autobox a ((complete)) newATF fluid transplant approx 7ltrs ,but to be honest it sounds like you have major gearbox failure (valve block seals/springs/valves,etc)not a cost effective repair, cheaper to replace with another autobox.

Cannot engage reverse gear

To my understanding this is a common problem with Saab 900s. The cure was to replace the existing linkages with an upgraded one. There was even a recall or service bulletin to this effect.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
