Question about 2001 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

Truck loses power sometimes while accelerating in first gear. Had a code check and replaced the plugs and wires. The following day I drove out 17 miles and back 17 miles. At the end of the trip it started to run rough again then stopped after about 10 minutes. I parked it for about 7 hours and everything was fine. Then a few min. into a trip, the hesitation started again and the CE light came on. Test showed low compression. There is foam in the coolant but no other smell. There is no water in the oil. My mechanic thinks it is a head gasket but not sure. Any ideas?

The code showed low compression. I just got an oil change about 300 miles ago and had the air filter changed... don't know if there is a connection. What do you think?

Hi i have a honda hrv 2001 4x4 am losing power when accelerating a need to drop down gears to gain power ?

It sounds like you may have a engine that is losing compression, or there could also be a vacuum leak. Also faulty spark plugs and/or wires can cause a loss of engine power. And the last, but often the easiest to fix, is change the air filter. Check the air filter first.

What engine code is stored in the computer? You may have a bad TPS (throttle postioning sensor), or a bad O2 sensor. Auto Zone can retrieve the code for you, and tell you what sensor it is related to.

Sounds like your catalytic converters may be plugged up. You can do a quick check by loosening the exhaust pipes from the manifolds and see how it performs.

Have you just started to have this problem recently? could be just some bad fuel. If not than I would lean towards checking or replacing your spark plugs & check spark plug wires for cracks. It could also be your catalytic converter is starting to plug up on you ? Check listed problems first before attempting anything else.
