How do I change the Alternator on a 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante - can you help please

Disconnect your battery first, raise the vehicle as high as possible and make sure you place 2 solid car stands (DO NOT LEAVE ON JACK) under vehicle, you will see the alternator on the front drivers side, remove all the electrical connections, plug, cable etc. if it has a plug it will also have a locking tab, make sure you press the tab otherwise you will not be able to remove, take note of wires and where they go. It will still have the alternator belt on it, this should not cause any problems, if you can loosen the adjuster and take the belt off it will be out of your way but not essential. Undo the upper and lower retaining bolt/nut on the alternator and gently slide out. When reinstalling make sure the belt is at correct tension. It is also worth noting that a lot of vehicles with codes on stereos and alarms may need resetting once the battery is connected!!!

Headlight lens laquer on my mitsubishi fto is flaking can this be repaired or does the lens just clip off to fit a replacement

I have fixed this on my own FTO. I used wet&dry sandpaper, followeed by rubbing compound, followed by polish. it's important to polish the light every month afterwards to maintain the shine.
I heard that Brasso brass cleaner is good for this too, but I've never tried it myself. There is a full guide on how to repair peeling headlights in the knowledgebase on www.fto-ireland.com

My speedo in my fto mivec as stopped working is it a easy repair?

If you have a speedo convertor/delimiter chip fitted (UK market mph) this is often the cause.

Mitsubishi fto 1995 import gpx battery light keeps coming on

sounds like you have a short somewhere. without seeeing the car, i would suggest going to an auto electrician, not a "local garage" and god forbid... to mitsubishi (unless your loaded that is).

my gut feeling would be the alternator belt (aux belt) is getting old and worn and is slipping, causing a power fluctuation, but again, without seeing it, i cant diagnose.

good luck with it, fto's are fantastic so do what you can

Fto fitting alternator belt

loosen these 2 bolts in this order 8a9e629.jpg once the 1st one is loose, loosen the 2nd one until the belt is loose enough to remove the belt(if its still on). then spin the alternator pulley by hand to see if it is seized up. its a good idea to check the tensioner pulley too.
