There is two sensors that those code refer too. The map sensor, and the iat sensor. and both would have an effect on gas mileage. Both sensors would just make the car run a rich mixture.

Throttle actuator A control system is stuck closed

This sounds like a very dirty throttle body. On the turbo cars it's pretty hard to get to the throttle body for removal and cleaning. I'm not sure about non-turbo.... Either way, a good throttle body cleaning should help out with this code.

P0508 code on 2001 Honda CR-V how do I troubleshoot

Hello,

P0508 = Idle Air Control System Circuit Low

Symptoms:
Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) - Engine hard to start - Rough or erratic idle speed.

Causes:
Dirty throttle body - Electric throttle control actuator misadjusted or damaged - Faulty Electric throttle control actuator - Intake air leak - Poor electrical connection to the Intake Air Control (IAC) valve.

Solution:
If there are no intake leaks, clean throttle body, adjust engine idle and erase engine code. If the code comes back you may have to replaced the Electric Throttle Control Actuator (Motor) to repair the problem.

I hope this helps!

Mike

How to clean throttle body on volvo c70 2001

This is a simple job so don't get scared and you can do this yourseld with some cleaner a rag and a small brush, just remove everything around the throttle body and you can go to your local auto parts store and buy a cleaning kit for about $5. If the deposits are not too thick and have not cooked or burnt onto the plate or throttle body, you should not need to remove the whole throttle plate assembly. With the engine off, simply remove the air hose from the throttle body intake and carefully wipe away the deposits from the perimeter of the throttle body and the throttle disk. You can manually operate the throttle while you are doing this.

This is a simple service that I've never seen mentioned in any owner's manual and I'm sure a great number of people pay for unneeded misdiagnosed repairs when all that is required is this simple cleaning. It does make a difference. You should do this at least once a year.
The '99s and up have an electronic TB which as you've read are prone to failure. Cleaning is still recommended and sometimes necessary when idle becomes erratic or if you recently had a MAF or 02 sensor go on you and it might be gummed up. The volvo intake is "dirty" anyway so after a while it will always have to be cleaned.
To properly clean the ETM on a 99+ turbo Volvo you need to remove the TB and clean it on a bench. Its tucked way under the intake manifold and its impossible to see what you're doing without removing it. Also replace the gasket.

Loss of power, stalling at stops and slows, codes P0300, P0107, P0105 and P0105. Will stall but when put into nuetral will start right up.

The symptoms and the codes you've given would indicate to me that you have a vacuum leak. Look for a loose a throttle body, loose, missing or damaged hoses, loose or missing intake manifold bolts or any other opening in the intake manifold.
P0105 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Malfunction
P0107 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

In extreme cold starts but won't idle well needs to have high rpms to stay running til warm

Try cleaning the throttle body, Remove the intake hose that connects to the intake and air filter box. You will need a can of throttle body cleaner $6. and clean rag. Spray the cleaner in the throttle body and you will see black carbon build up running out of the throttle body. clean the butterfly, which is what opens/closes when the throttle is open or closed inside the throttle body. repeat 2-3 times and wipe it dry and clean with the cloth, be sure not to leave any material inside the throttle body. re-connect what you removed. It will be hard to start for a second, don't worry it's the cleaner. After start up let it run for a minute and test drive. Cheap fix on alot of vehicles.

Hi, Since you have both codes Fuel system lean and MAF low I would bet money on that you have an intake air leak after the throttle. Check all hoses connected to the intake manifold, gaskets, injectors are put in place etc.

Hard start when air temp is cold, backfires when warm

Try this, remove (MAF) Mas Air Flow sensor,(be sure key is OFF) so you don't set a trouble code when disconecting wire conector, with some throttle body/air intake cleaner from the outlet side of MAF, spray the sensor clean, let dry, reassemble.Remove snorkle from throttle body, and with a old tooth brush, clean throttle body& plate with cleaner, may take a couple of cans if throttle is badly 'coked' up. Hope this helps.

VOLVO S40 SE 2001RPM HIGH

YOU MAY HAVE A IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE PROBLEM, CLEAN IT FIRST, THEN DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE I HAVE ATTACHED.

Here is the most common cause of this stall and idle speed issues, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
