Question about 2000 Buick Century

2 Answers

Slippy Tranny 2000 Buick Century....Runs great and the transmission is as smooth as silk, usually. About once a week, seemingly when i run the vehicle for a long distance, the transmission feels like it slips and shifts hard up through all gears and also when downshifting. Is there a sensor of some kind for the transmission or do I need to replace/rebuild it. I've been told to check the plugs for "misses" as well. Any suggestions?

Had the same problem. had the soiniod body changedbeginning of winter. Tranny shift Smoother but problem can back the next spring but less often then before.

Noticed that it was happening on hot day and after driving no more than an hour. Noticed that it was happening also in stop and go traffic.

Sometimes just putting the Tranny at Park and stopping the engine on a RED light fixes the problem.

I haven't gone back to the Tranny Shop.

Sounds like the transmission pump is starving for fluid. check the fluid level and color. the fluid should look red but not dark. try changing the fluid and filter. may have to have the front pump replaced. check these things ASAP front pump damage occures very quickly

Number of possibilities. See if you have any diagnostic codes stored. Could be throttle position sensor, coolant temp. sensor, hard to say. I would start with the codes. Does it start easy when warmed up, and run good? Boy, I just don't know.

It sounds to me like the fuel system is not getting primed during the initial start up. By cycling the key several times, the fuel pump has time to deliver enough fuel to start the engine. The inexpensive way to go at this point is to change the fuel filter. It is cheap and one of the first things to check. Hope this helps.

DIRTY TRANSMISSION OIL .

no but a low fluid level could cause a slip telling the ecm there is a slip top it off then clear the code and drive a few miles if this code comes back i would say there is internal damage to the tranny

If your car runs bad with an EGR code then I would suggest that the EGR valve be replaced. I would like to know what code was set on your computer. It would help greatly. When the EGR malfunctions, you will have rough idle and possible stalling. If you have a code indicating EGR it may also condem the cat converter. Please show any codes that are set. Thanks Moe

Sounds like the lock up torque convertor in the transmission is stuck in the engaged position. There is a sensor switch under the hood that can be temporarily unpluged but leaving it unplugged can ruin the transmission. Take it to a tranny shop.
