2001 Ford Escape - Bucking Engine

When I am driving my 2001 Ford Escape the engine will start bucking Rapidly at 4000 RPMs. As the RPMs increase above 4000 the buck will decrease in frequency but it gets more intense. what could be the problem?

We too are experienceing the same problem exact problem. With car in park I rev the engine to exactly 4000 rpm. the engine bucks and knocks and shakes severly, but quits as soon as the rpm decreases under 4000 and appears to run fine.

You need to tow this car to a service station almost immediatly, depending on what exactly is wrong you could be further damaging the vehicle. With the description you give it could be a whole mess of things but i would start with your fuel system. Have your fuel pump looked at and your injectors as well. this could also be as simple as a bad batch of gas/ water in the gas but it would not really explain why the problem ocours at higher rpms like that. Hope this helps

2006 crown vic at 45-55mph vehicle is bucking,

When was the last time you had checked the spark plugs? My \'01 Grand Marquis had the same disease, which progressively got worse. Eventually it threw a code for a misfire. Pulled the plugs for a check and the electrodes were horribly eroded.

If you are going to do the job/check yourself, be careful as one bank of plugs is installed at a slight angle. I would also recommend that once you remove the boots, you use a shop vac (or vacuum in general) with a narrow attachment to suck out any debris from the well to avoid it from falling into the cylinder.

Since the new plugs (I also cleaned the boots and electrodes, and used dielectric grease on install) she is smooth as glass.

If the plugs are normal, you could check into the torque converter clutch (TCC), but normally the shaking would continue throughout the drive range and not only kick in at a particular RPM. Suggestion would be to put the car in 1st or 2nd on the gear select, and gradually increase speed until the engine is at about the same RPM as it would be for cruising 45-55 (a scan tool with live read will work to get RPMs). I tried this and got the same buck in 1st gear at about 13-15 mph and again in 2nd at about 25. It is not as herky jerky, but you will feel a little bucking. Another test I did to ensure the problem was in the plugs/ignition was leave the car in park, open the hood, and remove the plastic cover from the top of the engine. Using your hand, gently apply pressure to the throttle body opening it a bit. Before I replaced the plugs the engine was shuddering pretty bad as the engine RPMs increased.

Sou. Like you may have some bad ignition wires, worn out spark plugs, or leaking coils. With the engine running spray the ignition wires with soapy water and then drive. If the problem is present replace the wires.

change the fuel filter for one, this is telling you that your pick up in the tank is getting clogged, I would drop my tank, and drain it, flush it, and check the pump at that time

Spark Plugs --get replaced at 70,000 miles--misfires
Clean MAF Sensor-- twice a year
Egr Valves go bad--cause bucking

Also sounds a little like ,you just drive it,
and never work on it

I would guess you have had MIL Lamps
on the dash ,and ignored them also

Sounds like a problem with your catalytic converter or possibly just an o2 sensor. If it is a cat problem I would make sure to have them address it b4 your warranty is up as they are typically very expensive!

the 1st thing u do here is get the electronic engine control system tested for fault codes, anything like this will set a fault code, any Kragen or Autozone parts store will run the test for free, ask for a OBD 2 code test.
