My car picks and chooses when it wants to start. It started in June 2008. The garage changed the ignition wiring. Within a couple weeks, it started again. I will not start in the morning especially. I thought maybe the starter...they changed the starter. I'm still having the problems. The check Engine light came and it was a sensor and crack in the exhaust. But that had nothing to do with my problem. Every time i bring it to the garage, it will start with no problems. I can fiddle around with the cluth, and it will start for me. Any Suggestions?
Yes. When it decides not to start, it won't but you can back to the car a day later, and it's fine. It's a 2001 Hyundai Accent.Yes. When it decides not to start, it won't but you can back to the car a day later, and it's fine. It's a 2001 Hyundai Accent.
Can anyone explain to me what is a Crankshaft sensor is? And how do you know when it's going? Can anyone explain to me what is a Crankshaft sensor is? And how do you know when it's going?
If it is the same problem I had with my car it is very simple to fix. Your car may not recognise your key, just jiggle the key around a bit!
Hyundai has the added security with keys in the form of a chip that "speaks" to your ignition telling it that it is "the" key for "that" individual car. When the ignition does recognise the key a light symbol on the dashboard will turn on (or off, I forgot which way it is) and the car will start. If it does not recognise the key, your car will not start no matter what you do.
This happend to me for a few years and I wasted loads of money trying to fix it, mechanics probably thought I was crazy as my car would always start for them.
If this does fix your problem you can choose to buy a new key or just keep jiggling the key if it wont start. I just jiggle it lol.
I only allows the engine to start when the clutch pedal is depressed, it is a safety feature required by US law, no it is not very expensive. I only allows the engine to start when the clutch pedal is depressed, it is a safety feature required by US law, no it is not very expensive.

check fuel pressure,if not 30psi or more then remove fuel filter and turn ignition on and fuel should come out with a little pressure,if not fuel pump is bad.
first thing to do is get the car not to crank and check for power to the starter. if the starter has battery power and signal from the ignition switch then the problem is the starter. second thing is to check the plug at the trans range switch. the connector may be loose since you just had the trans repaired. ground may be an issue but not likely since the dash lights and other things work. GOOD LUCK.
1. Turn key in ignition to "On" without starting the car... 2. Depress accelerator fully 3 times within 10 seconds 3. Turn key in ignition to "LOCK". on number 2, do it slowly all the way to the floor but within the 10 seconds
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not
start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times
within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you
start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not
reset. If necessary repeat this procedure."
1. Turn the ignition to the on position, but don't start the vehicle 2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal fully 3 times within 10 seconds 3. Turn the ignition switch to the off position.
If it doesn't reset on your first try perform the procedure again, it's somewhat tricky the first couple times you do it.
Linda to be honest with you I was so tired of this situation that in August 08, 2008 I trade the car and now I had brand new Dodge Ram, Im spending a lot of money in gas, but I like to be safe in the road.

What does that do and does it cost a lot?
the car is trying its best but won't turn over.
Can anyone explain to me what is a Crankshaft sensor is? And how do you know when it's going?
I am assuming the engine does not crank over?
