Our mountaineer is getting gas into the oil. What could possibly be the problem.

Fuel pressure regulator. or stuck open injector/s. The only way gas can reach the oil is threw the piston rings. Gas will seep threw them. regulators can dump a lot of fuel threw the plenum. An open injector will bleed off pressure(when turned off)) and dump gas right into the piston.

Nissan Maxima engine oil smells like gas. White smoke coming from tail pipe

if the oil smells like gas then there is either too much fuel entering the cylinder and not being burnt or the oil has not been changed with in the change interval. also if you take short trips a lot this can cause this as the engine won`t get hot enough to burn excess fuel and it is always in cold mode allowing more fuel supplied than is needed. the white smoke usually indicates coolant burning, but keep in mind when its cold out you will get what looks like white smoke but is steam from the exhaust. does the smoke smell like something sweet as this will indicate coolant.

2003 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 OHC rotates but won't

TDC is after the number one piston comes up on the compression stroke. So if you take the valve cover off, you should be able to watch the intake valve and tell where the cam timing is as the piston comes up. Keep in mind if cam timing is off you won't have much if any compression on most cylinders.

Vehicle ran for 2 seconds then shut down. will not start now.

Check your engine managment PCU, I feel it will need a reboot, otherwise it could be your cam timing, if your cam and valve timing is out, she won't fire as the valves will not be opening at the right time when the pistons come to the top of the cylinder head and compress the fuel.

Ford Edge Rear Hatch Pistons

The only way you can do it with new pistons is to install shorter pistons. These will probably not be designed for the weight or leverage requirements of the rear hatch. I suggest installing a small-link chain on each piston from one end to the other to restrain them from full extension. (Stitch a tight cloth sleeve around the chain to keep it from banging and scratching on things when the hatch is closed.) Make one end easily removable (a hook or dog-leash snap) so you can open the hatch all the way elsewhere. A bungee cord or rope installed elsewhere may do the same thing, but may get in your way sometimes. I suspect this solution will be considerably cheaper than new pistons as well as more likely to work.

2001 Chevy Malibu, 89,000 miles, 3.1 engine, won't start

Had there been a distributor like the earlier models it would be the one at fault. However now microchips control that aspect, the problem being synchronizing with the cam shaft rotation, the injector valves being controlled electronically are not opening & closing as per the compression in the cylinders leading to un-synchronized firing. Thus preventing the engine to start & hold a rhythm. This can happen overnight if the insulation has given way due to condensation, contact, etc. It's basically an electrical problem & I am afraid that the wiring will have to be checked thoroughly again meaning repeat of many of the tests which were carried out plus a replacement of the wiring near & around the induction coil & the chip involved. Hope this helps....sodeep

Fuel injectders ,not opening up

1 : If the engine is hard to start when hot, check fuel pressure and check the injector for leaks.

2: If the injector does not operate when the engine that is hard to start is cranked, the following as well
as the injector itself may be responsible.
(1) Faulty power supply circuit to the engine control unit, faulty ground circuit
(2) Faulty MFI relay
(3) Faulty crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor

3. If there is any cylinder whose idle state remains unchanged when the fuel injection of injectors is cut
one after another during idling, make following checks about such cylinder.
(1) Injector and harness check
(2) Ignition plug and high tension cable check
(3) Compression pressure check

4: If the injector harness and individual part checked good but the injector drive time is out of
specification, the following troubles are suspected.
(1) Poor combustion in the cylinder (faulty ignition plug, ignition coil, compression pressure, etc.)
(2) Loose EGR valve seating
(3) High engine resistance
