Question about 1996 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Idles low My civic has started idling to almost 0 sometimes when the car is stopped. Other times it is fine and idles normal. The car does not die but idles roughly. The car just had a major tune-up but mechanics still have not figured out what the problem is.

First off you might want to check the mass air sensor, if that's bad the engine will think that it's getting enough air when it's not... you can also adjust the throttle linkage cable so that the throttle plate will be more open when your foot is not on the pedal... hope that helps...

Idles roughly, then low when stopped or in park, then dies. Decreasing gas mileage. Slow to accelerate

Sometimes that's caused by a vacuum leak near the manifold area.

Sometimes air in the coolant will cause an idle problem. Air will keep the air temp sensor from sending proper info.
Hope this helps.

How low is low? Usually should be around 600-650 RPM's. If it is lower than that, look at cleaning the throttle body, and possibly a new IAC motor.

Your transmission torque converter lock up clutch is not unlocking, that kills the engine and is the cause of the OD light flashing.
