Question about 2000 GMC New Sierra 1500
A local shop told me I needed to replace the rear brake pads and the parking brake shoes on my 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 (with 110,000 miles on it). I let them do the work and they charged $227.00. The brakes locked up on the way home from the shop and the truck had to be towed back to the shop. The mechanic now tells me that this is a common problem on 2002 - 2004 GMC trucks and will cost an additional $284.00 to repair. The brakes worked fine until they worked on them. What is your take on this problem ? I have a 2000 GMC 1500 4WD. The right rear inside disc pad wore out. Ireplaced the pads in the rear and one of the rotors. Now both wheels lock up. Do I needto replace the caliper?
Hi joelalthomas, if they replaced your brakes and you never even made it home they had better warranty the work and as for the "it was a common problem on 2002-2004 trucks" well check for Chevy recalls as this is a safety issue that would have been corrected at no expense to the vehicle owner, do a little more research my friend and let me know what happens, I will check around a little as well in the meantime I would find a new garage.Do not pay any more as you said your brakes worked fine until they worked on it good luck to you As for your 4x4 did you look at the left side when you did the right side? and were they bled off properly? you can visually check to see if the calipers are functioning
