Question about 1991 Peugeot 405

1 Answer

Engine problems when the car starts from cold instead of just idling it cuts out i know this could have something to do with the air filter but had a look ealier but not sure where the air filter is on a 306 as i'm not mechanically minded. also could you update your system on car categorys as my model was not listed and could put other people off using your site

Yes seems to have lots of models missing, but still what else do you expect from a colonial cousin web site,if it doesnt have 8 cyls and 5 litres of engine its not a car, anyway dont think its the air filter as if it was blocked up it would throw out lots of black smoke, its most likely a sensor on the engine that controls the autochoke but not sure what one it is or where ,best advice if in uk is find a local mobile mechanic especially when one doesnt know much in the mechanical line.as i know its only a sensor but not sure which one.when **** come around later i will ask him as he used to work for a peugeot dealer.ps does the bullring still have its traffic snarl ups and people like me driving around spaggeti junction lost for 2 hours.

1986 Mercury grand Marquis cutting out when slowing down nearly impossible to start. Oil changed, new air filter, new plugs and wires, new fuel filter...?

I had an experience with a 1984 T-Bird with a 302. The 1986 may have the same system. With that car there was a temperature sensor that affected the idle speed once the car was close to warming up.
With even later models there is a "cold start sequence" which is an electronic way of replacing the ancient choke. The "cold" feature set the fuel mix and the RPM and made starts easier. Now you did not say if the starting problem was when hot or cold or both.

The poor performance when slowing down can be related to the idle rpm being set too low once the thermal switch cuts out. What happens is someone tunes the engine for a rpm that may be correct for the car, but the thermal switch has not dropped the rpm yet. Then when the car really heats up, the idle drops even lower and when you take off your foot from the throttle, the throttle closes too much and the engine cuts out when you are slowing.

Put in a new thermostat. The idle settings can not be set until the thermal switches activate to a run position. Also you may have some vacuum lines crossed which are making the cold and hot cycles reverse. There should be a label with vacuum line routing shown stuck on a part that holds the radiator.

My 94 Toyota Camry 4 cyl is running really rough and stalling out once the engine warms up

1. Error Code 24. Intake Air Temperature Sensor.
Solution:
Check the following:
- IAT Connector and wiring.
- Intake Air Temperature Sensor.
- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
- ECM.
2. Rough Idling when the engine is hot.
The following are the reasons due to which the engine can perform bad when it is hot.
- Fuel pump control circuit.
- Fuel pump pressure.
- Fuel injectors.
- Non Return Valve clogged, located on the lower side of car chassis above the fuel tank.
- Engine compression, valve clearance, spark plugs.

When the car starts cold it starts and idle goog for a few seconds after it idle drops to 0 then cuts off

Idle air control valve is probably playing up or leaks in air intake system from air filter box to inlet manifold.

Idle air control valve can be found on inside of inlet manifold. Take air cleaner parts off and there should be a small groove somewhere. squirt out with brake claner / degreaser

Have the engine fans and relays checked. If the engine fan does not come on when the a/c compresser kicks in then the air that comes out the vents will be warm.

MX-3 with V6 Manual transmission. Engine idle revving up and down

You should check your engine's AIR hoses that are connecting to the airbox. sometimes a simple airleak will be enough to alter your idle. Specially when its cold the car will already idle rough ( I know im canadian lol). So go check your air hoses ;)

1994 Mercedes C220 A spontaneously switches off when engine cold

early production 202 chasis cars had an updated overvoltage protection relay modification. I beleive it was to remidy a no start condition. From my experience there was a problem with the o2 senser heater circiut that would cause intermittent stalling when cold. There should be codes stored in the engine diagnostic modul even if hfm has not reconized a problem. i would have the scanned for codes. If none present I would purge the intake manifold(clean with special cleaner inducted into manifold via vac, port to remove all the carbon buld up and have the maf senser electrical porion cleaned. It would be a good idea to replace the front o2s with the mileage you have on vehicle. The heater grid is also located internally in the o2 senser. Hopefully you maintain your vehicle and have changed the sparkplugs and fuel filter according to service specs. Good luck

Cold Start Idle Issue

Problem might be the air control valve, it's located at the right side rear of intake manifold and has a hose going to the air intake duct from the air cleaner, as a test you might try pinching off that hose when the idle is a problem.
