Battery discharging after solenoid and alternater change

I'm getting 12.6 positive cable to solenoid 12.6 from possitive out side of solenoid to alternator . Does starter cable go on 6the same side as positive battery cable to solenoid or the positive out side from solenoid. alternator was rebuilt (regulator was bad -replaced and cleans bushes and other internal parts)and solenoid is new,positive cable is new Battery is discharging and car will not stay running

you need to trace the hole line there is a opening or wire is touching some where if none of this is the case wires are crossed up some where which will burn up everything on the line

you have a voltage drop.fine the damaged wire going fro mthe positive terminal of your battery to your alternator.fix this or it will keep working the alternator and draining your battery.

SOURCE: 2000 ford expadition battery/alternater problem

I have a 2000 Ford Expodition, After changing the alternator for the third and final time, I jump started it several time till I could get it to a repair shop, the owner looked at several things and did a few test. then replaced the #1 fuse a 20Amp Power point fuse that was blown. it has worked fine ever since. BTW he did not charge me anything, made a new firend and customer.

MY NA ME IS MAGICBROOM58, HAVE YOU TRIED .. I THINK IT'S ON THE FIRE WALL PASS. SIDE (CILINOID) TAKE THE RBBER OFF THE POS. AND TURN YOUR EGNITION OVER TO THE ON POS. GO BACK UNDER YOUR HOOD AND TAKE A RUBBER HANDLED WRECH?SCREW DRIVER AND CONNECT THE 2 POINTS IF IT TURNS OVER U FOUND YOUR PRBLEM

Wont start

battery terminal connections looseor corroded.Check the cable terminals at the battery.Tighten the cable and remove corrosion as necessary.Battery discharged or faulty.If the cable connections are clean and tight on the battery posts turn the key to the on position and switch on headlights and or windscreen wipers if they fail to function the battery is discharged.Automatic transmission not properly engaged in park or neutral or clutch pedal not completely depressed.Broken loose or disconnected wiring in the starting circuit, inspect all wiring in the starter solenoid and ignition switch.Starter motor pinion jammed in fly wheel ring gear, if manual place ransmission in gear and rock the vehicle to manually turn the engine.Remove the starter and inspect the pinion and fly wheel at earliest convenience.

Got new battery, new starter, new possitive cable, and alternater. The truck wont even allow radio to turn on.

Looks like you have done almost everything to solve your problem. Perhaps you may want to check the ground cable, especially where it attaches to the frame or body. Use a good test light attached to a ground on the engine and touch the positive terminal If it doesn't light then you know you have a ground problem between the battery and the test light.

What you have doesn't sound quite right, nor does the advice you are getting, though I don't think it would cause a short either.
I think the right way depends on what you want the amp gage to measure. If you want it to read the total output of the generator, you have to connect everything in the car to the other side (opposite from the generator wire). On the other hand, if you just want it to measure what current is going to the battery, then you put the accessory wires on the same side as the wire from the generator. I have made 2 diagram below. A volt meter is easy, and you can have both, if you like. A voltmeter just goes straight to the battery terminals if you want to know for sure that you are charging. You can use plain ground and the alternator wire, but then if there is a fusible link from there to the battery you are not always sure the voltage is getting to the battery. I have changed both the alternater and starter

This procedure usually works:
·Check the battery cable connections:
Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine. Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter.

·Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.

·Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's pinion gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck pinion gear.
·Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

Amp meter shows discharge andmotor won't turn over

I would say the starter motor has a problem.Try tapping on the starter motor with a hammer,lightly,while some one tries to start the engine,the amp meter is supposed to discharge when starting,because the stater is drawing amps.The starter needs to be replaced.

We are trying to find the fuse for the starter solenoid. the car is a 1998 ford escort lx and will not turn over so we are thinking it's the solenoid but want to check the fuse first.

I don't know about the 98 Escort, a fuse on a starter circuit is very unusual.

You should check the voltage at the battery - then at the starter solenoid, battery side. If you have 12 volts at the battery, 12 volts at the battery side of the solenoid, great. Now, have a partner turn the key to start position and test the starter side of the solenoid. If you haved 12 volts with the key on start position, I would be thinking starter. If you don't have 12 volts on the battery side with the key in start position, I'd be thinking solenoid.

You could also jump the solenoid with a jumper cable to check the starter operation.

Use a volt meter if you have one - a 12 volt test light if you don't have a meter.

Car won't crank & makes a clicking noise when ignition is turned.

test battery voltage , should be 12 volts, also check battery amp draw when you attempt to start engine, you should have 12 volts at the starter solenoid , you could have a faulty starter motor, battery cables and or terminals... even with a good battery check for vltage drop from battery positive post to battery positve at solenoid ... large drop equals bad cable, replace ... just points to check....

1989 Ford F250 pickup- amp meter reads backwards

If you had a dead short when connecting the neg. battery cable, the battery was being installed backwards or you had grounded the alternator + lead somhow.

I suspect whnen you installed the battery, you have burnt all of the diodes out in the alternator and the AMP meter is showing no charge. The AMP meter also could have taken a beating in the reversal.

Check the battery in in correctly first. If not reinstall or get the correct battery. Then check the battery voltage with the engine running. If less then 13.2. Replace the alternator again.
