At idle the eng runs, but sputers. In gear engine runs but sluggish and small back fires. i have to jam the gas, it picks up the losses power. NO smoke and check engine light is on. is it the fuelinjectors or fule filter or bad spark plugs and or harness?

Vacuum leaks work like this. A small hose breaks, you don't notice a engine problem, but the gas mileage goes down a bit. As the leak progresses, mileage goes down more. A large leak you notice the engine runs rough at idle. Combine this with clogged air, fuel filters and clogged catalytic converters and it will start killing the engine at stops and eventually go down the road. But to answer your question, No the line going to the diff, wont affect the engine performance. Because the PCM will compensate for the small leak. More fuel.
Some makers used Vacuum releases for their emergency brakes which had a Vacuum switch connected to the shift assembly. This would account for a stumble if Vacuum vented out through this switch.
More common for shifting stumble to occur from Park to Drive, engaging a load on the engine, not to stumble to a freewheeling Park position. Sounds like idle speed control is sluggish to stabilize the motor.
You also have idle speed control problem with A/C, kind of shows that A/C was what kept the engine running because when you turned the A/C off, the car died.
I am going to give you some Websites for wiring diagrams. Alldatadiy.com amd Autozone.com with free wiring info upon registering your vehicle.
It seems that the base Idle speed control is not working and the A/C idle speed control is.
Also check for Vacuum leaks on the intake manifold by spraying water from a pumpbottle on the seams of the gaskets.
Check ignition Relay or ignition switch for random cutouts. The fusebox layout is on the Autozone site.
did you take on fuel with the engine runnung?? if so when you remvoed the gas gas the evap emmison control systemwill be set off. to correct this jsut take the positive cable on the battery off for 1 min. then put it back on. this will reset the computer also where you air cleaner is you will see a hose running from the air filter box and a clamp holding it on at the other end, take clamp off their is a screan under their, get some mass air flow cleaner ( around 10.00) and clean the caron off the screan so the engine can breath agine. NEVR take on fuel with engine running it sucks airthrew the gas tank and does small back fires threw the the mass air flow you will not hear them but the exsperance you are discribing is the results. once you do this you should get your power back and the car should not runn sluggish any more
5 minutes is a long time to drive a car with no coolant. Does the engine run rough, or miss? Or is it just sluggish and low on power? If it got hot enough, there could be permanent damage to the engine. Overheating can cook the engine oil into a gummy sludge and loses it;s lubricating properties.Check for signs of coolant in the oil. That would indicate a head gasket failure or a cracked head.
if its a automatic and the engine is cold it wont shift into the last gear. the tranny and engine have to be at close to normal running temp to shift. its normal and nothing to freak over. if this isn't the case go to kia-forums.com/1g-1994-2002-sportage/ and post a thread there or look for one. great site
I have 2005 Kia Sportage with a check engine light. No other symptoms. I was told by Kia and Local mechanic that it is the fuel injectors. Error Code states that Fuel injectors are running lean. Put Master airflow- no change. Ran engine test with propane to run rich and trim never changed from 15. Car runs great. Kia dealer said that this is because we use Ethel in gas that it effects the alumium fuel rail delivery to the injectors and that it is necessary to change all of them .Kia Dealer wants $1,000.00 deposit to place order 6 fuel injectors from Kia. (Has anyone heard of that?)Also put fuel injector cleaner in tank.Does anyone have any suggestions before I spend over $1,000.00 to replace all 6 injectors or possible idea of what could be wrong?
This sounds like the idle air control valve. This valve sits on the inlet manifold and basicly regulated the flow of air for tickover( or idle). The usual operation of this valve is, when the engine is running at high speed the valve will be closed, when the engine comes down to idle, the main throttle butterfly will shut as you lift your foot off the pedal. The idle valve will open and give a small amound of air to the engine, just enough to run it at idle speed. These valves can stick open, therefore letting air in when the throttle is open, giving the engine too much air. WD40 is only a temporary repair untill it jams again. Best course of action is to have part replaced.
My theory is that it could be the injectors clogging. You could first try running a higher octane fuel, then if that doesn't seem to help try using the minimal amount of gas, and add injector cleaner to the tank. If all of this fails to work you can take your vehicle to the dealership where they can run a system analysis on it and help you pinpoint the problem. Hope this was helpful. Please rate my solution, thanks.
