Hey there Gator,

From Florida? I was on the left coast for a while, Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete. Anyway, to biznis.

As a fellow operator of a large vehicle, I feel your pain.eating gas - f94aa9d.jpg

Keep in mind, this is a BIG Vehicle with a BIG Engine (6.6liter equals about 400 c.i., yours is 6.7).

That said, if this is a recent development, please comment me back with any event or symptoms that may ahave happened at the same time. In the meantime, there are things to check.

Checks:

  • Tires at proper pressure
  • Air filter clean (or new)
  • Get that big engine tuned up (new plugs). Think about a High Energy Ignition Coil)
  • Oil change and lube
  • Brake adjustment (Emergency brake too)
  • Keep track of your mileage, document trips too to check on increase or decrease.
Practices that increase mileage:
  • Keep it between 55-65 on highways
  • Don't gun it from a stop. Jack Rabbit starts EAT fuel in a heavy vehicle like a Suburban.
  • Plan your trips to consolidate travel
  • Use A/C sparingly any time you aren't at highway speeds.
  • Empty the vehicle of unnecessary cargo (lighten it up)
  • If you use drive-thru's, turn off engine if waiting in a slow line. For every two minutes waiting, you're losing nearly a mile per gallon
Anyway, let me know,
Mike

When I push on the gas pedal to accelerate my truck it does nothing then about 4 seconds later It jults forward and accelerates any ideas?

Sounds like it is the throttle position sensor . This tell your computer that you are pushing on the pedal to go faster or slower . You may want to go to UTUBE and put your year and brand of truck in , like this Example : 2001 Chevy Suburban Change out throttle position sensor with 5.7 liter ( This is my truck ) . Hope this helps , Grant

When -- if ever -- should the antifreeze be changed on an '84 chevy suburban, and what type of antifreeze?

As long as the strength of the antifreeze is still at least -20 degrees, I wouldn't change it.The problem with flushing a coolant system and putting in new coolant is has a strong acid base and will start to eat at old freeze plugs in the engine, starting them to rust faster and then leaking your new coolant. You will be using Green antifreeze, not orange or yellow.

98 chevy sub. k2500 to accelerate poorly

Likely a clogged fuel filter or defective fuel pump. Confirm correct fuel pressure with a gauge. If the pressure is low, remove the fuel filter and check for obstruction. If it's hard to blow through it, replace it with a new filter. Then retest the fuel pressure. If pressure is still low, then it's likely that you have a defective fuel pump.

I have a 01 2500 hd with a 6.0 gas motor . the problem i have is when i let completely off of the gas pedal at any speed i hear a grinding that starts like 2 seconds after i let off the gas . it also...

Your diff could be going out or the transmission is having issues. Does your burb have a Locker in the rear? My 02 had the Locking Differential and i blew two of them up; a mile from home it busted so i put it in 4wheel and drove back on the front axle, the rear was spinning freely then it locked up and i came to a very quick stop- any sounds while taking tight turns?

2001 Suburban going thru coolant

The most common sources of leaks that I see on these are where the water pump bolts to the block, the weep hole on the water pump itself, and the seam at the plastic end tank of the radiator [inlet end of radiator]. You'll almost never see any coolant drip on the ground from any of these leaks because of where they are, how slow they leak, and the fact that when the engine is hot the coolant vaporizes about as fast as it can leak. I have a tool that I put on in place of the radiator cap which allows me to pressurize the cooling system to about 17 psi. If its an especially tough one to find I'll leave pressure on the system overnight and come morning the leak is usually quite evident. I'd start by looking at where the water pump bolts to the block as the gaskets there are prone to leaking the most. Good luck, hope you find your leak!

Gas pedal is tough.

The accelerator cable may be frayed or caught on something. Check and make sure it is not binding on another part.
