My car cranks but doesn't start i changed the starter and fuel filter, it now cranks and acts like its going to start but dies after a second or two. I checked the fuel pressure and there is no pressure at all. But at times there seems to be good pressure but now its as if it has lost all pressure, fuel pump works. What should I do to fix this problem?

Did you check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail? with key in the on position to activate the pump? If you did and there was no pressure I would first check for the obvious, gas in the tank, leaking fuel from a line, check for flow before the fuel filter, located at the rear of the vehicle near the gas tank. take the fuel pressure line off put it in a catch can and have somebody turn the key to the on position to activate the pump, if it flows chances are the filter is plugged. Also pay attention to the sound of the pump if it is very loud there is a good chance the pump is failing and needs to be replaced. It could also explain why sometimes it dies. The pump is going out of range. Hope this helps

If fuel pump was working you would have fuel pressure.check the relay for the pump, check for power at the pump.

98 GRAND PRIX WONT CRANK SOMETIMES

This is a trick some folks do to figure out if it's the starter. When the car doesn't crank, take something like a bat or a metal bar and hit the starter and few times. If the car starts right away then it's your starter, otherwise you might consider the fuel pump relay/fuel pump.

I would start with the crank sensor. Have you scanned it for codes? When it dies will it start right back up or do you have to wait till it cools off?

provided you don't have a vacuum leak, (check all hoses for tightness and cracks with engine running) it's probably your idle air control valve or sensor.

Car cranks but doesn't start and no fuel pressure

The fuel pump is probably bad, bad pumps can produce some pressure at times but not enough to run the car.

The SE and LE indicate opinions on the cars. Most of the parts will interchange. When doing engine changes, the best way is to swap the ECM also.
