has anyone elce had this problem?
dont buy the 5cyl ...unless the head has ben fixed. about two years ago i received a letter from chevrolet saying somthing about defective valves in the first motors they made, and if my vehicle developed any problems related to that issue ( under 1,00000 miles) then cheverlet would fix it for free.
i showed it (the letter) to my friends and told them how i would be a chevy man for life becuse of this and how they stood behind their product
...well shure enough at about 70,000 miles it started developing a noticible miss, getting terrible gas mileadge, and even stalling at stop signs.
i took it to Bill Heard Cheverlet (were i was working for a subcontractor as a parts runner)and they told me that if the valves were the problem then it wouldnt even run,but could not explain why it ran so rough
at 90,000 miles the check engine light came on and i think the code was p 420 (catalist)so i took it to the other chevy dealer in las vegas (Bill Heard went out of business)wen i showed the service writer the letter from the company he semmed to act suprised as if he had not seen one like it, but was very optimistic that all of the trucks problems "could be"related to the valve problem and if it was cheverlet would cover everything.thats not wat happend first of all they needed to charge me 300 dallars to do the compression test.then it was at least 10 days before i herd from them, finally they told me the compression was not low enough for cheverlet to honor there letter AND since there are two cataletic converters on it the parts alone were over $1,000 and the bill was over $1,800 it still runs rough, dies at stop signs, and gets poor mileage and yesterday driving home from work the check engine light came on.
...i dont think i will be recommending anything GM makes
