Re: Need to change brakelight
Hi, Look to the side of the opening of the hatch beside the brake light assembly and you will see two screws that when they are removed the assembly will pull out to the rear and you can get at the bulb sockets by turning them 1/4 turn ccw. Not too bad if you have a crystal ball. Glad to be of assistance - please rate the advice I can always learn from your comments.

Open trunk. look for plastic access panels near where your brake lights are(inside trunk). Remove the panels. Turn bulb housing counterclockwise until you can remove the housing from the lens unit. Push in bulb and turn a little bit counterclockwise until it will come out of the socket. Read the number on the bulb. Replace with same number bulb. Installation is the reverse of removal.
IT'S A BIT MORE COMPLICATED THAN ABOVE.
TO REMOVE BRAKE LIGHT HOUSING YOU HAVE TO GO INTO THE TRUNK AND REMOVE AN OVAL PLASTIC COVER NEAR WHERE THE TAIL LIGHT IS. REACH IN AND FEEL FOR A KNOB (FEELS LIKE AN OUTDOOR SPIGOT KNOB). TURN IT UNTIL IT COMES OFF. REMOVE ENTIRE TAIL LIGHT CASING. YOU'LL BE ABLE TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE HOUSING BY PUSHING FROM INSIDE OUT. DISCONNECT THE WIRE. CHANGE BULB, REVERSE PROCEDURE.
Have you checked under your headliner inside the cab? Most of the wiring for the 3rd brakelight is ran under the headliner. There should be a connection you can disconnect and remove the light to replace the bulbs.
I changed my wife's last night and there is no need to take the tail light housing out. I have taken it off before but you do not need to access the light. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and get the light out. If you insist on taking the housing out, take the nuts off the house from inside the trunk and pull hard. It is really stuck in there but will give way.
They Are Removed From The Inside. On The Inside Of The Car Find The Opposite Side Of Where The Light Is. There Will Be Either Carpet Or A Panel There Remove That And It Will Give You Full Access To The Lights. Use A Twist And Pull Motion To Remove The Light From Its Housing Then Replace The Bulb.
Very easy to remove: You insert a small flat blade screwdriver into the small slot, an pry it open. The plastic is rather strong; if you pry on the center of the slot, it will not break. Hope this helps.
