You have to strip off the front of the engine to get to the timing. Often, also the brackets (like the alternator bracket), that are in the way.
You will also likely have to remove the front motor mount. This means putting a jack under the oil pan to keep the engine raised (use a piece of wood between jack and oil pan).When everything in the way is removed, the timing cover can be removed to expose the timing chain.
oh yeah, also have to remove the crankshaft pulley-use a harmonic balancer removal tool for this.
