How to remove bottom part of dash 1995 thunderbird

As others already explain, you don't need to remove the lower dash area to replace the ignition switch, but if you need to remove it for whatever reason, you must first remove the color matched part of the dash that lies just below the steering column by removing the three large bolts that secures it to the dash metal frame (located along the end of the cover) and then pulling it towards the seat as parallel as posible to the floor to disengage the clips that hold it to the dash, then you will see the four screws that hold the lower plastic part of the steering column cover, take them out and you're done.

If I have to turn my steering wheel or move it up and down for it to start whats my problem.

Sounds like a possible short inside the colum, I would check the ignition switch (key switch) if not that check the ignition switch from there check for a short in the steering colum.

I have to replace my ignition switch, trying to see how exactly to do it. also whats the best way and safest way putting on wheels. how long of lug bolts do i need for aftermarket wheels do i need spacers...

Remove the steering wheel center portion

if it has a driver airbag you will have to loosen the screws around the back of the steering wheel

if not the hooter potion should just clip off

once off remove the center bolt of the steering (unplug the airbag plugs if applicable)

mark where the steering wheel was located on the shaft so that you dont put it back scew.

remove the steering colum covers that go around the indicator and wiper switches.(there are usually a few scres that go in from underneath

Remove and unplug the wiper and indicator switches (usually just fastens with three very small screw from the front.

now you will see the ignition housing.

At the top side of the steering colum you will see a plate that pulles the ignition housing against the steering colum.

this plate is fastened with "break off bolts" the heads of the bolts break off once fastened as to prevent thieves loosening the ignition lock.

to loosen these screws use a centre punch and a hammer and work them in an anti clockwise direction.

Unplug the ignition switch at the back of the ignition.

please note that if the vehicle has airbags you should not switch on the ignition whilst the air bag is unplugged, this will activate the airbag fault lamp on the instrument cluster.

Install in reverse order.

How do I drop the steering column to replace the ignition switch on top of it?

Take the plastic from the dash underneath steering colum , There will be metal bracket with 2 nuts you need to take off. This will allow the steering colum to drop down enough for you to get to switch . It still kinda hard to get to but doable .

Where is the ignition switch in an 1989 chevy S-10

Remove lower dash panel, under steering wheel, there will be a bracket that holds steering wheel, remove both 15mm nut's that point up, not the 13mm bolt's the screw into the colum , steering wheel will come down enough where you will see the ignition switch on the top side of the colum, the switch will be screw to the colum with the head light dimer switch.

I need to replave the key switch in a 1991 cavalier

First disconnect your negative battery cable. Then remove the plastic cover below your steering colum, and the covers that cover your headlight swith, turnsignal switch, ignition, ect. Remove the bolts that hold the steering colum to the dash, and allow it to lay on the drivers seat. Place a towel under the colum (to catch metal shavings), and drill out the two screws that hold the ignition in place.
Install your new ignition in reverse.
