I have a 2001 Pontiac Montana minivan that is misfiring stalling and cutting out. I put in fuel additive thinking it might be the injectors and premium gasoline . Could this be a bad fuel filter?

It could be a timing issue (misfire) but it absolutely could also be either air or fuel filter. If it's starving for fuel, it's the fuel filter. If it's starving for air (too rich), it would also stall out and that could be the air filter. Basically, you need 4 things to make an engine work: compression, air, fuel, and spark.

Whistling on 2001 montana

That is interesting. Usually it's the other way around. If your check engine light is on and you have a P0171 and/or P0174 codes, Then check the mass airflow sensor and the tubing between the MAF and throttlebody. If the check engine light is not on or you have P0172 and/or P0175 codes, then check the air filter, air filter box, and tubing between the air box and MAF. Also, check to see if the throttle body has excessive buildup and if so, service your throttle body. The codes may help you narrow down the root of the problem. Otherwise check and clean all the air ducting going into the engine and replace the air filter.

Without knowing your mileage, when was the fuel filter changed? If you can't remember then it's time to replace it. Replace fuel and air filter plus add a good fuel injector cleaner with a fresh tank of gas. If this helps then replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires will even help more. Check your serpentine belt also.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. Don't forget to rate me.

Check Engine Light on and flashing on Montana 2001

You need to get the check engine light codes read. Until then you're just guessing when you replace parts. The engine light is on for a reason, it means there are stored trouble codes. Get those codes read and look them up here - http://www.obd-codes.com

Good luck!

Pontiac montana heater works but doesnt blow heat out on defrost

If the heater core is good and the blower works, the valve doors may not be opening and closing properly to direct air towards the proper vents. This may be because something has fallen in and is obstructing their movement. The actuating motors may not work properly, or the linkages that connect them to the mode doors may be worn or improperly adjusted. You can get a look at the mechanisms by removing the driver side knee bolster (two screws) and a lower trim panel on the side of the center console.

Be careful fiddling with the linkages. Everything is plastic and easy to break, and replacing the heater box requires removing most of the dash.
