Gear **** locked in park and button stuck

sounds like you have to take the console out and see if something is obstructing the shifter or gear release mechanism. Or something got broken or bent inside that shifter or the linkage. But you're gonna have to look more in depth by taking that console out.

Shifter stuck in park

On some models there is a pin or clip you can press with a screwdriver to release the lock.
Usually you can unlock the shifter before you turn the key to the on position.
The brake switch or the shift lock solenoid would need to be tested.

might have a brake lock. i would pull the center consol and make sure its working fine, unhook the cable then check it, if it works unhook the cable from the trany and see if the cable is stuck. if not then chaulk the rear wheel and see if you can move the shifter on the trany by hand. you should find your problem in one of these things.
hope this helps it should fix the problem

Shifter will not come out of park 96 ford probe

Are you stepping down on brake when attempting to shift out of park?
There is a release mechanism on the pedal. (if I remember correctly) If it has failed, you might try disconnecting it temporarily so you can drive the car. (likely it's a cable that goes to the shifter itself)

Automatic shift knob stuck in park, can not move it in 97 Legacy Subaru

There are two switches that have to be activated before the park lock is released. The first is on the brake pedal, the second is the thumb button on the shifter. Most often the brake pedal switch is the problem, it can be pushed back and forth in its mount, sometimes it gets pushed to far and no longer switches when the pedal is depressed. You can also use the emergency release and shift out of park anytime. There is a plastic "ring" around the base of the shifter, in most cars it is black, in cars with wood grain trim pieces it is wood grain. The best way to get it out is to unscrew the center console and push it up from the back, you can pry it up buy you may break the tabs that hold it in. When this piece is out, look down at the front of the shifter base, there is a hole a pen will fit down into. If you push a pen, pencil, or any small round straight object down into that hole, it will mechanically release the shifter lock and allow you to get out of park. My daughter drove her 96 Legacy that way for months until I got around to fixing the brake switch.
