Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

Cooling fan My car is starting to overheat, and the heater and air conditioner has stopped working also. The cooling fan is not coming on, but I do not know how to remove it to replace it, or if it is even the cooling fan that is messed up.

Radiator fan on my 2001 pt cruiser only engages when the air conditioner is on. When the heat is on the fan doesn't work causing the car to overheat. Do I need a new fan?

probably not . There are fuses to check and a relay to check as well as the coolant temperature sensor to check . If the engine overheats when you have the heater on it suggests an air lock in the cooling system . Have the system pressure bled along with all the other checks.

Fan in truck won't work

I'm assuming that you're talking about the engine cooling fan. I'm assuming that this vehicle has an electric engine cooling fan.. I'm also assuming that you know the fan isn't working properly because the vehicle begins to overheat when at a stop or moving very slowly or climbing a mountain, but seems to be alright cruising down a regular highway. If I'm correct in these assumptions, you just about HAVE TO take it into your friendly mechanic shop.... You need them to determine if your problem is a fan motor, a switch, or some other related gadgetry.. NOW, if you've been talking about the fan in your heater and air conditioner.., please disregard all of my previous questions and comments.... except when I advised you to take it to a shop.. You're still going to need to do that. Good luck...

My guess is that your electric fan is NOT operating at all. Under normal conditions, just going down the highway, your cooling system will function just fine without a fan running. The air flow through the radiator is adequate to keep things cool. However, when you stop, you quickly get into an "overheat" situation. Actually, you should be able to hear your fan begin operating when your engine temperature starts climbing or your air conditioner requires the fan to do its thing. Note: If you've ever severely overheated your engine, your problems may be worse than just a fan not running, but you really do need to confirm whether your fan is operating correctly, or not. Another note: I had a vehicle with a tendency to overheat when stopped. It turned out to be a faulty (leaking) pressure cap on the cooling system.

Car overheating on idle

Does the radiator fan come on before it overheats?
And is it boiling over, or just showing hot on the gauge ?
Is the cooling system full of coolant and no air pockets ?
How do you know the thermostat is ok ?

Air conditioner not working. Fan not blowing.. running fine and then just stopped. What ta think

Have your fan checked out, because without the fan the compressor will overheat, and so will the condensor. This will prevent cool air from blowing.

My honda civic 1999 sir overheats when I turn on the air con.

If your car is getting Overheat when you turn the air conditioner On, it means that you need to repair your compressor or it will need to be replaced.

It could also be that if your car has a 2nd or separate radiator fan that should come on when the car is either hot OR when the A/C is on - perhaps it is NOT coming on and thus your car overheats. If your car does have a 2nd fan, check to see if it is coming on when you turn on your air conditioner.

Also, I would check that your radiator fan is on (even if it has only one electric fan) when the car temperature is getting near the HOT zone. At some point, the fan should come on to help circulate the air through the radiator vents and help cool the coolant (water) in the radiator.

In short, make sure your fan(s) are working okay. If not, that could be causing your car to overheat too.

Tell us news (remember rated this).

Overheating and no hot air from heater.

Leave rad cap off when starting from cold, turn heater(not defrost) on, and top up coolant in rad as you go, to about an inch or 2 from top of rad. Let engine run with cap off until your rad fan comes on & off 3 or 4 times. Every once in a while, rev engine slightly for 5-10 seconds to help bleed air out faster. After about 3 or 4th time fan comes on, you should be o.k. to put cap back on all the way & fill bottle to proper level. Heat should be there now. Give it a try & let me know how it goes.

did you bleed air out coolant. if you did check engine oil when engine cool .could have a blown head gasket. if it look like milk shake . head gasket leak . reason blow no heat check see heater blower motor working.if yes . heat control unit or heat door not open in dash vacuum line to heat door actutator could be leaking.
