Question about 1990 Ford F250

1 Answer

1990 ford f 250 7.5 litre won't start

I Have replaced the distributer cap and rotor as well as the silinoid and can't get it to start. I am getting spark from the coil to the cap but no spark coming from the distributer to the plugs. I was told it is probably the ignition module? So I checked on this part and it looks nothing like what is on my distributer. The ignition module that they have mounts to the side of the distributer and my distributer has a group of wires going into the bottom of the dist and nothing mounted on the side? Can someone please help explain what I need to do

I get spark from the coil to the cap by using a screw driver to ground it and I did the same to the wire on the spark plug and no spark?

If you are getting spark then the module works, I am a little confused about this, did 1000's of no start Fords, all were the ignition module if there was no spark, check the coil hi tension lead, does it spark when held up to a good ground (distributor end), a bright spark that can jump at least 3/4"?

I have spark coming from the coil to the dist by using a screw driver to ground it to something and got spark and then tried it again and got nothing. I am not sure what the hi tension lead is ( sorry) and were is it located on the coil? if so I did try the spark on the coil.

We have a 1990 f-150 it wont start but will crank

Take some throttle body cleaner and spray it into the throttle body then try to start it. If it fires up for a second then shuts off you need to change fuel pump or fuel filter. If that dont work check for spark. check the distributers cap and rotor. Also check the coil to see if your getting any spark from there

I changed my distributer cap and rotor, On my 1990 Cherokee 4.0 inline 6 ,I replaced plugs followed 153624 and now it wont start ?? i matched # 1 on the block to #1 on the distributer cap etc .. turns...

if that distributor has ever been out, it may not line up on #1. check to make sure the coil wire is connected tight on both the coil and the cap.

try the rotor under the distributer cap, remove cap , remove rotor cap and replace, also note if it has black sooty marks on center cap known for fouling.
