Question about 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara
When starting the car there is a clicking or ticking sound i think it is in the
very front of engine. is louder some days others. on acceleration it obviously clicks faster. or after i have not driven it for a day it takes awhile for the clicking to start
I'm not familiar with this particular vehicle, but I will suggest something I have done in the past. While the engine is running while it is making the noise, using a short piece if tubing or hose, hold one end to your ear and move the other end around the engine until you find the noise is the loudest. This should help to narrow down the area the noise is coming from. Be extremely careful of moving parts such as belts, fans and pulleys. It sounds as though you may have a defective valve lifter which acts up more when the oil gets hot because it has a thinner consistency.

Sorry to state the obvious but the problem is directly connected to the speed of either: The engine; or your MPH. It could be something on a belt that is snagging, or most likely a piece of rubber that is being abused. If you know that neither of these suggestions are not the problem then I would think that it's the alternator. Start you car and pop the hood to see if you can locate the noise. The Alternator is easy to fix by yourself. I have a friend who is mechanically inept and even he was able to replace it. could also be the fan. try to narrow it down geographically with your ears and that should leave you with much smaller sum of variables.
