What causes the head lights to come on a couple of hours after dark whether the security system is on or not? Is this caused by a short some where in the security system?

Well the mildew smell is probably because you have mildew in your heater vents, or something a dead animal.

There is probably a pretty simple short. If these came with the automatic option for the headlights (where a photosensor automatically activates them when the light drops to a certain level) it might be in that circuitry.

1999 Jeep Grand cherokee Limited, 5.9 liter torque setting for head bolts

posted the fsm
5.9L, 1999 WJ?
check it covers this engine,
buy my WJ, fsm skips the 5.9L, not sure why.
ah only the limited has that. engine.
my online links show no 5.9L. so see why you are asking here.
why not go to real jeep forum and ask.

here are the (what else) questions
are they TTY?
are the reusable.?
are the angle set.?
what is the pattern ? Sequence.
and staging levels .? (about 1./3 steps is ok)
those are always a question. and the FSM answers them all.
for your car.

if the expensive WJ (limited) FSM is too pricey, (it is)
then ask here.

one search, you can too, or better ask them.

the intake is TTY bolts.
not head, heads are 2 times, bolts. lol.

im not sure what book covers the 5.9L, it might be a supplement.
ask jeep for best advice, there.

My 96 Grand Charokee sat for 3 years. I can't get it to start.

What about the fuel, was it drained and the system flushed. Gas turns to goop after this long and will barely burn.

I have a 1999 jeep grand charokee and my power window dont work no fues or relay .....

There's a small motor inside that is probably shot. Of course the switches have a tendency to stop working if treated harshly. If you hear the motor run but no movement, its an armature broken or even a missing pin. You'll want to check armature anyway since if stuck it'll burn a motor easily.

Where is the engine number for a1998 jeep grand charokee located

Should be a little plate in the engine compartment on the firewall. The older the vehicle the less readable. There a chance they added that info on the little sticker or plate on the driver door where it closes but doubtful.

Anti-theft system

You have to have 2 keys that are already programed in order to program another key. The procedure is cycle 2 programed keys in the ignition switch one at a time pausing 3 secs each time in the run position or until the antitheft light proves out. Then cycle an un-programmed key for 3 secs and the same for any addition key.It will have a limit of 8 keys.
If you do not have 2 already programmed keys then you have to have a scan tool that will perform security access and key programming.
